Lock the doors, stay inside, make sure your blinds are closed, and don't look out the window. If your lights are off, don't turn them on. If they're on, don't turn them off. Best not to display any sign of activity.  Call the police and report shots fired if you can determine the general area it originated from. If you can't, you'd be wasting the cops' time, and somebody closer probably called it in already. Oh, and it's probably not a great time to order a pizza, either.

Wow, it's been 15 years since I moved out of Oak Cliff, where hearing gunplay was a regular occurrence.  Now that I live in North Dallas,  it's mainly just a New Years Eve event (bullets are cheaper than fireworks). 

Growing up, that was always quite exciting because it was invariably followed by circling pork-choppers which are fun to watch.  We used to try to get into the search lights, since cops were much better at chasing kids than civvies (still sucked at it, though).

Dude, a car was on fire down the street from me Tuesday night. Cop cars driving everywhere, police helicopter. Searched internet for any news on the issue and found nothing. Apparently the weekend before last there was also some sort of barricade situation where the swat team was involved. WTF has my neighborhood been smoking?

I heard and saw a gunshot once at 3 a.m. when I was in the living room on the phone with my then girlfriend. Just some guy calling a guy a bunch of swears in the middle of the road and he then shot at the ground. I didn't see how it all went down after, but it was pretty insane. Especially because my town is almost devoid of guns so this is a rare occurrence.
