Rush and Opeth? Rush and Porcupine Tree? :lol

Just screwing with everyone. With Dream Theater, Opeth, Porcupine Tree and Rush, Roadrunner now have a very impressive roster!

Wow, I wonder how many albums they signed for, or if it's just an album by album basis.

Why does it matter?

Assuming that the packaging is done by the record company, I absolutely HATED the deluxe edition of Black Clouds. Worst packaging i've ever seen. Hoping that Rush's next album doesn't get the same treatment. PT, on the other hand, have fantastic boxsets/deluxe editions/packaging, but I don't think RR is involved in anything other than distributing for them... though I could be wrong.

Roadrunner, while still big, might be too small for a band like Rush. Sure, DT, PT, and Opeth are pretty big names in the prog metal community, but Rush is probably one of the bigger touring acts out there today. I just don't know how it will affect their promotion/tours/etc. I doubt Roadrunner would sign them if they couldn't handle it, but still...

Just a lot of variables, things could go any way I guess.

I'm pretty sure SW handles most of the design of the packaging for PT, right?

I completely agree with you about RR's packaging/boxsets/whatever though. I wanted to order the one for Heritage but it totally didn't look like it was worth the money at all.

Yeah, I think SW is a lot more on hands with the design of that stuff. They do all the vinyl/boxset printings through KSCOPE, and Roadrunner might just distribute the "standard" versions... I think

And Rush is hard rock.  I mean, they have KISS and Queensryche on Roadrunner as well.

Anyways, not really monumental news.  Just another label to release Clockwork Angels and the Time Machine tour.  They'll probably promote both a lot more than the last label Rush worked with.

They wouldn't, because Alex Lifeson's metal riffs would impregnate every listener. It'd be unfair to other metal bands.

The big four idea was also pretty cool. I would totally wanna see that happen.

Rush has been with Atlantic since Presto. Atlantic's stable of bands continues to shrink. They are really heavy into promotion of more pop, rap, hip hop genres than anything else. The record industry is evolving rapidly. The new album is close, and the band (and their management) felt that the deal RR offered was too good to pass up at this point in their careers, and that RR would give it (and subsequent releases.....YES you heard me, subsequent releases) better exposure. Atlantic has always been good to the band, and given them the freedom to do what they do, how they do it. But all things change, and Atlantic continues to as well, so it was a good fit for everyone............except Atlantic; but even they understand.

Rush would have to be the headliner. The other three could rotate spots 2,3, and 4 on a nightly basis kinda like when DT and Joe Satriani toured to gether several years ago.

Guess this explains all the delays on the Time Machine Tour release, but because of this, I'm pretty happy about having to wait a little longer for it's release.

Also, I wonder how RR will handle the release of Clockwork Angels? I predict 4 editions of the album at release:
-1 CD Standard album, no-frills packaging
-2 disc, album and making-of DVD in digipak
-2 LP vinyl in magnificent gate-fold with 180 gram vinyl
-Deluxe packaging containing 2 discs and 2 vinyl as above, in a giant box-set with a lithograph, Time Machine Tour backstage pass replica, and a couple post-cards with various Rush photos past and present

REMEMBER! THIS IS JUST SPECULATION... but it could happen. RR seem to have no problem giving fans many choices in terms of album's and their release!

I'm happy for Rush but at the same time feel a little sad for Atlantic that it came down this way.  I have many, many LPs with the classic green/orange Atlantic label on them; they're one of the classics as far as I'm concerned.  Yeah, there's probably more money in the "hot" acts these days, which all seem to be pop/rap/hip hop, so I don't blame them, but it seems like as long as Rush is making money for them, why let them go?

That's rhetorical, I guess. Obviously RoadRunner offerred them something better than Atlantic could.

Changing labels means nothing in regards to this.

Besides, they tour like all the time.  That makes up for not releasing too much new material in 2000-2010.

Apart from PT and Opeth, I don't think there's anything more that I listen to from Roadrunner.
But yeah, they have gotten bigger and bigger, and they do tend to sign popular bands.

Yes, touring, very good, but why are they so reluctant to write new stuff?

I'd imagine that their playing ability, knowledge of music theory, and supply of ideas are as great as ever.

As silly as it sounds, I believe it. They seem to be taking other label's bands for their own. I can't imagine that it's much of a coincidence.

Wow, this probably has something to do with why the new live release has been delayed twice, they were shopping for a label. Good for RoadRunner, I hope this works out for both parties.
