It's really amazing what people can shoot nowadays.  Hell,  most of us have cellphones that'll shoot 1080p in decent quality.

This one is outstanding.  I could never figure out why the hell anybody would choose to live in the Dakotas, until now.  This was just some guy in his backyard using a prosumer grade camera and a nice quality dolly.  Be sure to watch the HD version:

This one's a nice quality time lapse.  It was shot by one of the Discovery astronauts over the six weeks prior to his launch.

Lets see some more examples of 21st century videography.

That Milky Way video is absolutely breathtaking.  :omg:

That deer at 1:58 in the first video is so scary.

Also, I wouldn't call a Canon 5D Mark II "prosumer grade". :lol

This thread would be imcomplete without some Danny MacAskill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw

Oh, and I always found this one amazing (Camino Del Rey): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKC6quj6tEI

This is really breathtaking.  Similar to the Dakota video but shot in Arizona and Utah.

Something like the first video you posted, only in Spain:

Awesome.  The scenes from above the clouds were spectacular.

Wow. Thank you, that was indeed very awesome. Looking down on the Earth from up there really has to be the most amazing feeling.

kári

Yeah, especially seeing those polar lights up in the sky... So mindblowing.

I just want to point out that I slept under the starry night exactly at the spot at 1:05 :D

This may be a dumb question, but when you're out there away from city lights, does the sky actually look that spectacular, or are the cameras here significantly enhancing it?

rumborak

It does indeed look that way. Every time I am out there in nature and see it I understand why the ancient people spent so much time pondering what it is.

And dude, you really need to get out of your city or wherever you are :lol

rumborak

kári

Seriously? I've never seen a sky like that. The remotest place I've been though is Andalucia, but still....

rumborak

Yeah, I've seen skies like that in Alaska, where there's really nothing for miles around you.

Everybody should find a way to get out and see the Milky Way.  From your neck of the woods it'd be tough,  but it's certainly worth doing.  From my locale,  Colorado is the best I get to manage.  You can camp 10k' up and far away from Denver and see a helluva show.

Yeah from here I have to travel pretty far to get out of that blue area, pretty much the entire east cost sucks. I'm definitely going somewhere to get a good look one day though.

That would probably be all red in Belgium.
Wow.  You're not kidding.

Still,  there are still some pretty dark places over there, and given that nice rail system y'all have,  not too terribly hard to get to.

kári

I noticed you guys debating over that in the P&R section. Problem is if you want HSR to get anywhere you have to book like months in advance because they're always sold out (at least to popular places). And it's pretty expensive. I took the Thalys from Brussels to Avignon (a little north of Marseille) this summer and it was more expensive than flying to Rome last year. It was much more comfortable though, true. But still.

That's really beautiful, although very different, the video reminds me of Iceland...

Closer to the Edge is amazing, one if not the best film about motorsport i've ever seen! The amount of balls those guys have is astounding!  :tup
