Karmakanic & Agents of Mercy
« on: August 25, 2011, 11:44:49 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I searched for it but was unable to find a Karmakanic thread and since I've seen a lot of you comment about them I thought they deserved their own thread.

Anyways I just finished listening to In a Perfect World and I have to say I like it even more than WTBITF.

I would like to hear your opinion on the new and the previous albums.

^ Jonas looks tired/stoned :lol

Anyway, IAPW is great. I wasn;t sure about it on the first 2 listens, but it has grown on me and now I consider it as good as Wheel Of Life, and maybe Who's The Boss In The Factory. Excellent band!

The first 3 songs 1969, Turn It Up & The World Is Caving In are gold.  The last song, When Fear Came To Town is very unique song and a highlight to me.

I, too, have to listen to this one a few more times before I absorb it. For some reason, I wasn't as excited listening to this one as much as the last one the first couple times, but I've been in a non-TFK-related mood lately, so I might just give it a few more listens soon and try to give it a proper listening experience!

I will say, though, that the initial listens did impress me. They're going in a great direction and I really enjoy their first three albums!

I have Entering the Specta and Wheel Of Life.

ETS is a good album. Welcome to Paradise, Is This The End, and title track especially  are great.   a couple songs are just so-so.  Amazing performances all around.

Wheel of Life sounds half-assed.   some good moments, but the lyrics are corn.

I have every intention of gettin the next album in line though. I hear Who's the Boss is a masterwork.
Ludicrously speedy or infectious with the slow-mo

Wheel of Life is definitely my least favorite of the four albums, but still good.

Who's the Boss is one of my favourite albums, genuinely fantastic prog rock with some pop tendencies. Love it!

On my first listen of the new album now - amazon were offereing two mp3 albums for £10 so I got this and the new Anathema. I'm about halfway through 1969, really digging it.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

Nope, heard it all the way through and really liked it! Not sure it's QUITE as incredible as Who's the Boss, but it's definitely a fantastic album. :tup

Rich I can't get enough of the new Karmakanic.  If it wasn't for the new DT it would be spinning all the time.

Thinking about throwing this one on again soon. I think I got burnt out on Karmakanic and other related bands like TFK, The Tangent, etc.. lately, so I've been taking a break.

To those that have the special edition - do you like the radio version of Turn It Up more?  I do, and by a wide margin.  I'm very happy with the album though.

Another thing I find odd - for as much as I love Transatlantic and Karmakanic, I've never been able to get into The Flower Kings.

The first 3 songs 1969, Turn It Up & The World Is Caving In are gold.  The last song, When Fear Came To Town is very unique song and a highlight to me.

The last song bores me to death.  I skip it every time I listen to the CD, but the rest of it is pretty good.  Not on the same level with the previous two, though.  Frankly, it feels a bit phoned in to me.

Finally got around to hearing the second half of the album (the first three tracks were boring). I'm surprised at how much I love "Can't Take It With You". The quirkiness of it just worked for me. But none of the other songs do anything for me, unfortunately.

Need to get around to the first three albums someday.

I consider "Wheel of Life" a masterpiece.  It's once of those rare 5 star albums.  "Who's The Boss In The Factory" is almost as good, but I'd save the first one, "Entering The Specrtra" for last.

In my opinion Karmakanic has been growing over the years. In my ranking I would put In a Perfect World first, and follow the timeline back from then. So I'd recommend starting with Entering the Spectra, then Wheel of Life and finally Who's the boss in the factory. That way you can see how they evolved and you will listen to a better album each time  :)

At first I was unsure but over time I loved the song.  The only song I'm not big on this new album is "Can't Take It With You'.

I definitely prefer their first 3 albums over In A Perfect World.  My biggest gripe is that the vocals sound way too over produced.

Ok, I thought Agents of Mercy also deserved some recognition cause it's also a great band so I included them in this thread. I recently listened to The Black Forest and I find it really good and I think it's way better than the two prior albums. Anyone else listened to them?

I've read about them and seen some youtube clips of the tour with Karmakanic but never bought any albums.  I think I'll give them a spin.

I tried the first Agents of Mercy disc.  Not my cuppa.

I really wish Roine would bring The Flower Kings back.  Their last album "The Sum of No Evil" was their best one ever  :hefdaddy

This is the year, supposedly, as clues have been dropped by both Roine and Jonas themselves, and it's likely that things will start rolling once Hasse is finished recording/mixing/mastering the new HFMC album for release this Spring. I predict TFK will reconvene in the summer, and release an album in the fall.

In my interview with Jonas you can get a feel of where TFKs are at right now.

Personally I didn't like Sum all that much, but am very excited for TFK to get back together. I wasn't overly taken by the first Agents of Mercy disc but really should pick up the new album and give them another chance.
