people like that never die though. it's always the little kid that was walking to his mailbox and got flattened by a tree, or the old lady that slips and chokes on a fork in the dark with no power. the guy who goes and hangs ten on a tsunami wave never dies

Just got super dark in Apalachin, NY near Binghamton, NY. Started to rain a minute ago. Its getting suddenly pretty cold after being humid and warm all day.

It was raining out here near Albany/Schenectady (NY), but it stopped.  It'll start raining again later - right now, it's just humid as fuck.

We've already tied the chairs to the deck and flipped tables upside down to reduce surface area.

I wonder if anyone will have a mailbox after this is done, considering how they keep getting knocked over by the plows in the winter and then lazily stuffed back into the ground.

Yep.  That's... pretty much the sky right now.  Except, a bit darker.

saw quite possibly my favorite shot of all the coverage so far a little while ago, they cut to the main room at Grand Central Station and it was 100% empty... a little creepy but very cool

Yup saw that. Flipping from weather channel to msnbc.
Albany's gonna get hit harder than me by a good bit - I'd tie the tables as well if you can't bring them in.
We took the deck furniture under the deck, stacked it with the heaviest stuff against the lightest, and then bungee corded it all tightly to the deck itself.. hoping that will do.

This is the back of our house that we didn't get a chance to brace yet with boulders... I'm a big worried it coudl be up against the house by Monday morning:

So I'm stocked with with three bottles of wine, a case of beer, and a good bag of the green stuff. Watching Battle Los Angeles on blu ray from Netflix with my gf. It's pretty windy and raining hard in cetrAl NJ. Looking forward to watching the storm from my apartment balcony assuming a tree doesn't fly through my window.

Raining for real here now...we're on our third hurricane each, just had some more chili, and we're working our way through season one of Weeds.

Dammit, the hurricane's moving back onto the water again.  It's going to pick up some more speed before it hits again.

Power is now constantly going out and back on here. Wind gusts are up to 70 mph now, and ridiculous amounts of rain.

Same here, been doing that all week and especially all day today with a day off and nothing to do. You like it?

I heard that show is very good... I need to start watching, but after I finish Battlestar Galactica.

Do it. It's not "HAHA that is funny," but it is ridiculous and makes you want to watch more. I also find the main character very sexy. She is older but I dunno, she is damn sexy

And it has Kevin Nealon. So there you go

We're really liking it so far.  Hopefully the power will stay on so we can make it through the rest of season one, and all of season two.  $16.99 per season at Target!

And yes, Mary Louise Parker makes my pants happy.

At least there isn't a tree loose on the edge of that though, that's what would worry me.

Out of curiosity how long until it reaches Delaware area?

I looked at wind speeds reported at different airports near Norfolk, VA and the DelMarVa peninsula, which is close to the most intense part of the storm right now, and most are in the 35mph range with gusts up to 50-60mph.  Not quite what was expected, though I'm not sure what kind of storm surges are going on.

I just went to the dumpster and I saw some people in the other apartments taping up their windows.
With masking tape.

You know, I remember as a kid everyone in FL would do this. There must be some reason for it.

I can't tell what's going on out there and I don't care to go out and check, but I just heard a pretty horrifying scream coming from just outside of my house.  Shit's getting real.

As amazing as it is to think about just how strong mother nature can be, you DO NOT, do not, want 100+ mph winds anywhere near close you.

The wife and I took off to Hershey pa for a weekend get away. I decided I would rather be in the jacuzzi with my wife than be without power in the middle of a hurricane.
