Remember this crazy feature of the old EZ board?
« on: August 20, 2011, 12:29:07 PM »
I just remembered that when you started a thread, it would already appear in the thread list, even though you hadn't submitted the body text yet. So, sometimes you would write a rather lengthy thread start, and by the time you submitted the thing people had already commented on the title (usually with useless comments of course :lol )

EZ board is an online board provider that hosted dt.net back in the day.

I remember hearing about and seeing it, but it never happened to me.  I was still lurking then.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I never really started threads back then, but I seem to remember some people complaining about that feature.

I don't remember it, since I wasn't a member back then. But I do remember that there wasn't a PM system, back on DT.net.

Yep, thanks to bandwidth issues that Itchy swore were too great to deal with, PMing was globally disabled across the board. I cannot recount the number of times there was a thread made asking why this was the case.

There were also several hundred "@User" threads to compensate for the lack of private communication.

Oh god did those get annoying. It's like the chat thread became pentacostal and began reproducing at totally-uncalled-for levels.

Yeah, that was one of the worst things about the board. And then there was the censoring of all profanity, which everyone circumvented anyway.

Well I do remember at one point after a crash (I think) some specific words/phrases like "that's what she said" and others would show up as different text altogether and certain words would be censored unless you specifically went into your account settings and enabled the more flavorful language.
