To clarify, those are songs and not album titles. Into the Parallel Universe is off the self-titled album.

Ok  :lol well I have that one.

Was wondering if anyone knew MyGrain here and... well, they appear in the very first post of this thread :) Too bad they split up last year, but I still recommend the last two records.

Into the Parallel Universe
The Ghost In Me

Yes I have 2 Cd's, the first two albums.
I saw them a couple of times live too, at festivals.

Nightmares Part II, is pretty solid.
The pre release songs didn't do a lot for me, but the album is going to get better with each play.
The heavy songs are their, but there are more melodic and progressive songs on the album that are more my thing.

Managed to pick up a copy on the weekend, but haven't listened to it yet.  Spun the first Nightmares a bit last week and it's aging really well.

I relistened to MyGrain's self titled. It's pretty solid but nothing was particularly outstanding, it's as I remember it really. I'll probably give it another go at some point over the next 6 months

Just finishing up my first listen, and like the first one it's gonna need a lot of spins to get into the songs.  I almost found it a bit underwhelming, but I thought the same about the first one.  Lots of proggish moments as you say.

Just wanted to post that I'd be meaning to get copies of Omnium Gatherum's Grey Heaven and Beyond so I finally ordered them a couple of weeks back and got them both.

Beyond is one of the best melodeath albums I've ever heard.

This is a great band and it's such a shame that it broke up. My favorite albums are the S/T and Signs of Existence.

Cheers for showing them to me in my roulette mate.

I know Brent has mentioned them too even though he doesn't dig the vox.

New song from Kalmah, one of my fave MDM bands, new album in April.
Maybe just a little too mid paced, I prefer the thrashier faster stuff, but still love it...

I'll check this out when I'm at home.  Have a couple of their albums but don't know much of them or gave them much time.  The last one was pretty decent though.

Give them a spin, they are not really an immediate band, but they have a tonne of hooks and melodies buried underneath the growls and guitars.

I thought that was pretty groovy.

I own Seventh Swamphony and For the Revolution.  I'll have to find those cd's and check them out again.

Those two albums are solid Kalmah albums, but probably not their best works.
They aren't bad by any stretch but Revolution is on the slow side and Swamphony is just below the top tier.

Highly recommended are The Black Waltz (one of my all time fave MDM albums) and 12 Gauge which is a crushing record.

The only mention of Noumena in this thread is unsurprisingly by my friend Mora, so it's about time to give them another high recommendation :) Absence is a true hidden gem, kind of similar to early Insomnium with some clean vocals thrown in. Full album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIpk6ATuMTQ

EDIT: Also spotted Ghost Brigade in here, great band. I refuse to tag them melodeath, even though they tend to appeal to same audiences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcSy2bUJsEA

The new At The Gates song is pretty cool. I loved the previous album so excited for this I am.

That sounds like old-school At the Gates.   :metal

Loved the last album, so this is a no-brainer.  Tomas is just awesome.

The Finnish band Fireproven are releasing their debut album Future Diary in a couple of weeks. They released a new lyric video yesterday and the song is beautiful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Nhyc6uFvw

Their Omnipresence EP (2013) is more progressive than what the full-length seems to be shaping up to, and it was a huge critical success here in Finland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zum2XqvmLU

Apparently Children of Bodom have finished up recording their new album. It's being mixed and mastered now, and a likely release should be around October time. I loved I Worship Chaos so hopefully they can keep that momentum going.

I was definitely better than the few before, not classic Bodom by any means but decent.

But the first 4 Bodom albums are pretty much untouchable to me.

Agreed. Something Wild through to HCD was an amazing run of albums; even more so when you consider how young they were when they made them. I saw them on their 20th anniversary tour last year when they played nothing but tracks from the first 4 albums and it was brilliant. Great to hear songs like The Nail and Red Light In My Eyes played live.

Fixed that for you. I used to rate CoB in my top 3 bands of all time and I freaking love AYDY?

AYDY has some Bodom classics on it (Living Dead Beat, In Your Face and the last 3 tracks), but overall it's a small step down from what went before, in my opinion. If You Want Peace, Punch Me I Bleed and Next In Line are a bit uninspired, whereas every track on the first 4 albums was great to me.

My vote for the 5th Bodom classic would actually be the one that a lot of fans seem to rank near the bottom of the pile: Blooddrunk. I love every track on there.

No need to fix anything, AYDY was a step down from the first four IMO.
I'd prob go for Halo Of Blood as the 5th.

So I see they decided to transform into Omnium Gatherum.

I wish there were stronger riffs behind the verses, like the ones they used to make. This is an okay start though. Alexi always said how he hated how people boxed them into doing neoclassical shreddy stuff and hated their straightforward stuff, but this is also straightforward and yet full of melody.

And here I am thinking you were just about fully over with me on the dark side.

Well, it's not that I actually "like" growls, so much as what can I tolerate to enjoy the music. Every now and then a band has harsh vocals, and I don't mind at all. Maybe it's all in the style.

Musically the CoB tune was awesome as hell. The vocals..well, they weren't, but musically I'm intrigued so I plan on following up.

Those vocals are very similar to Chuck Shuldiner which I find much more enjoyable than the more "growl" type vocals ala Michael Akerfeld. How do you feel about the band Death, Tim?
