They're not really melodeath at all, but they're also one of the best metal bands ever so you should definitely listen to them.

They're more along the lines of technical/groove metal.

I was never really able to get into In Flames

but Reroute To Remain is one of my favorite melodeath songs.

EDIT:

if you like In Flames you might like Disarmonia Mundi

When I first heard them I immediately thought of In Flames

Gojira is da shit

Big Dark Tranquillity fan here, almost every one of their albums are excellent imo, right up there with Dream Theater as far as my favorite bands go. Also into other bigger acts like In Flames and Arch Enemy. And while more of a folk metal band, Eluveitie's Slania is pretty great melodeath album, I played that like crazy for a few months. Blackguard is another band along similar stylings.

Also into Kalmah, Wintersun, Skyfire (at least their last couple of albums) and I just got into Insomnium recently, very good stuff. :tup I'll have to check out a couple of those bands OP.

Can't get into this genre at all. It's not heavy enough, and it's not melodic enough either. If I want something heavy, I'll go with full-on death metal. If I want something melodic, I'll listen to prog.

Then again, it's not like any of the bands I've heard (Bodom, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Scar Symmetry, to name a few) are bad, it's just bland to me.

Dark Matter Dimensions has actually grown on me a lot since its release.  When it came out I was so disappointed but listening to it before Unseen Empire came out, I could get into it, there's really a lot of great tracks.  Doesn't hold a candle to the rest of their work, but it's decent.  Glad they redeemed themselves with Empire.

Holographic is easily their best.  For Aeons Past is just as good, those two are probably in teh top 5 melodeath albums of all time.

So i listened to the new Threat Signal album.

I did not like it AT ALL.

It sounded like a bunch of generic deathcore/metalcore to me, and i really was not impressed

Is this TS's first album since Kyle McKnight left? If so, then I fully understand. I'm only familiar with Under Reprisal but that album is the only thing that could be classified as metalcore that I've ever liked in its entirety and I fucking love it. His leads, solos, and melodic outros are head and shoulders better than anything else I've ever heard in that genre.

SOILWORK!!!!!

I have a theory that eventually Dirk Verbreun's bass drums will kill us every one.

Nah. I've been in the same building as Gene Hoglan and lived to tell about it :P I also saw a bill that included Unearth, Chimaira, Soilwork, and In Flames one night but they may have had a different drummer at that time so I can't guarantee having withstood his Dirkin' off.

Also BanksD, I just listened to the two TS links you posted and liked 'em both. I'd just say that the first one may sound better with a solo added since the 6/8 feel really makes me wanna here some cool shredding over the "marching" feel of it. Cool song regardless. The second one was exhibiting the blandness of metal bands that seemed to transition from "being able to be mistaken for nu-metal in their early days" to "well, we kinda learned to shred but still can't write an interesting song" like Machinehead and Chimaira and sometimes Devildriver (whom I like overall any way.)

The second track still had a very fresh, evil sounding lead tone with some thrillingly evil melodies and shreds however. Force it on yourself if you have to but you may end up liking it.

I've known about them since you were literally shitting your diapers (yes even before 2007) and they've got their moments but just have too much of their material comprised of stuff that's fast and heavy without actually being compelling to my ears. Kinda like a better Slayer imo.
