So DTF, what are your irrational fears?
« on: August 20, 2011, 01:37:20 AM »
I have this irrational fear that every time, and I mean every fucking time, I go to unclog the toilet with a plunger that a round baseball sized piece of shit is going to fly out and smack me dead in the forehead.

So how about you, people of DTF. What irrational bullshit do you fear most?
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Threads you start. But actually I had a nightmare last week I got stuck in a bathroom with an overflowing toilet and started sobbing. Not dignified macho adult sobbing but the kind of sobbing when you break your favorite toy when you're 9.

I keep a pocket knife on a shelf next to my bed, and every night, I'm afraid that the knife will somehow fall at the perfect angle to stab me in my eye while I'm asleep.

So why don't I just move the knife somewhere else?

I don't know. I don't know.

Also, whenever I shower and my eyes are closed while I shampoo my hair, I'm scared that a spider (or some other bug) will fall from the ceiling onto my head.

Moths! Very phobic of moths. I have no idea why, I just hate the little blighters. Divebombing you from every corner of the house. Nightmarish little beasts. Like tiny kamikaze thestrals - avatars of evil or what have you.

Until recently I thought this was probably only me, but I keep hearing of other people with the phobia lately and now I actually feel pretty well-represented. Which even turned into "a little bit cool" when Karen Gillan mentioned it in an interview. That's my ice-breaker sorted. :hat

Moths. Bastards.

-STDs
-Getting raped by some guy
-Breaking my tool
-Getting mauled to death by my 2-month-old puppy.

Of these, the one I fear the most is the last one, because it could probably happen.

Websites I'm unsure of. Seriously. Caused by some of the "screamer" sites (you probably know what I mean), and honestly if I caught one of those fucktards who make those they'd end up lying on the ground in a bad shape. It's not funny.

Also, fire. Almost everything about it.

Heights even when I'm in a building with no chance of falling.  Looking down turns my stomach.  The Dark Knight's I-Max scene's when Batman goes after the banker got to me.

My wife got stung by a paper wasp and a yellow jacket in the same week and now she's frightened by anything that flies.

I used to be afraid of wasps and bees for the longest time although never being stung. I was finally stung a few weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all.

Moths. Bastards.

This, I was at a friend's house having a little gathering with her mates, and three moths just snuck in randomly. Me and my friend were the only girls there and ran into the other room, whilst all the lads were laughing their asses off at us and trying to catch them. When they did, they told us they were gone and then let them go again.

I also hate people play-biting me anywhere, especially around the neck. I think I read Dracula one too many times.

Btw, I understand that someone can be afraid but... I really don't like the idea of killing something just because it's scary. If it's something actually more or less dangerous (mosquitos, wasps, whatever; anything that stings), I understand, but if it's just a harmless spider or something... Yes I'm also scared by some of them, but I just prefer to put it out of the window or something (and if it's something that flies, just open it, close the door and leave for a while). It's not done any harm to me, and isn't going to do any, so why kill it... And it's not its fault that it can scare me.

Well, yes, it's that number, but it is supposed to be the most beautiful proportion you can use in constructing a rectangle (and I think other shapes as well). Like, the most aesthetically pleasing dimensions of a rectangle

So yeah, street sweepers.

When I was little, every time one of those would drive down my street and it's lights would flash in my window, I always used to pretend that it was some sort of death squad rounding up groups that I belonged to, like five-year-old boys or kids with blonde hair, and if they saw me they'd take me away and murder me. It was a fun way to snuggle up under the covers and get comfortable.

Fast forward about twenty years to college, and I'm leaving my friend's apartment one night. Just as I get in my car, a street sweeper rounds the corner, and I panic, nearly rear-ending the car behind me in my desperate attempt to escape it. I still freeze up every time one comes around.

How's that for irrational?
