my account just got activated , and i'm just bursting with questions! so ill start with one from the top of my head!

which solo do you prefer ?  imo i think ToT sounds nicer

Lines in the Sand easily for me. I find it more melodic, and it has more style with the bending technique and general rock style. I don't find the Trial of Tears guitar solo to be one of his better or more memorable ones, although it's still good.

yeah although lits is very melodic and has more flow to it , for some reason i still favour tot , theres just something about that whole "myungy" feel to it

I still think the section itself is great. The bass and drums create a nice groove, and the guitar solo has a spacey sound with all of the whammy vibrato, but judging the solo itself, I prefer the LITS one. I'm a big fan of Petrucci's rock playing.

Keyboard? Well, only TOT has one that could be considered as a solo...
Guitar? LITS for me, I just love the way JP plays it. TOT is very nice as well, since it fits the atmosphere of the song in a very awesome way, but I prefer the one in LITS.

Actually, thinking back, the 2002 LiTS solo is quite better than ToT's.  :biggrin:

I'd have to go for the Lits solo, far more expression and style, but if its any consolation........ I thought that JP looked far better in the Tot's clip.

My vote goes to LiTS for best solo. However, as a complete song my vote would go to ToT. However both are top 15 songs for me.

I've been trying to re-create the vibe of John's LITS solo in practically every solo I've ever played on every song I've ever written.  Hell, I'm trying to re-create it pretty much every time I pick up a guitar.  So yeah, LITS solo by light years.  Probably my favorite guitar solo of all time.



Have I mentioned that I enjoy the guitar solo in Lines in the Sand?

I vote Lines.. This version is actually quite possibly the best thing I have ever heard JP do in his entire career. 1:42 is fucking epic.

Lines in the Sand's guitar solo is better.  But Trial of Tears is probably the better song overall...both are top 10 DT material though.

Most people here will go with LiTS because it's a more accessible melodic solo, but I am going with ToT.  It's probably my favorite solo by JP.  It's very jazz/fusion based, plays over key changes in the progression, gets a little bit shreddy but not really, and just has an all around cool vibe to it.

Myung's groovy bass lines add a whole new layer to the actual songs. Trial of Tears for me. But not by a long shot.

I choose Lines In The Sand's solo mostly because the solo itself but in other important way, because the feelings that generate that solo in particular.
