O'Brother (post-prog-metal-indie-industrial) Thread
« on: August 13, 2011, 03:03:00 PM »
Anyone a fan of this band?

They opened for The Dear Hunter last night and they were really incredible. I was pretty into their set. Checked the EP out, and it's really really cool.

Haven't checked them out yet, but I'll see them along with Kay Kay (who I also don't know) when I see TDH.

Kay Kay is a lot different. They are more of a hipstery and fun kind of band (but still pretty good). I think that O'Brother really stole the show though. So good.

Awesome band. Really looking forward to seeing them again when they open for Thrice.

Really guys?  I saw them open for TDH and their sound was annoying.  Tons of (intentional) feedback, chugging chords with their back to the audience...I was thouroughly unimpressed.

EDIT ADD-ON:  The local opening band was much better than O'Brother.  Sorry, but they O'Sucked when I saw them.

Good band, good EP.  Nothing amazing, but lots of potential.  I'm seeing them tomorrow!  Also, "post-prog-metal-indie-industrial?"  I think "post-rock" does alright.

Listening to Death of Day right now, it's pretty cool. I can definitely see the Oceansize comparisons.

I think progressive describes them better but who cares.

I was at the same show, Quad.  I like this band a lot.  They kind of had me entranced, lol.  I think they have a lot of potential.  TDH was pretty amazing also, but that's for another thread.

These guys were awesome last night. I bought the EP after they played and the guitarist was in the merch booth. He was a pretty awesome guy and shook my hand and said thanks for buying it. Definitely looking forward to checking it out.

You all are noobs.  I wouldn't say there was anything really progressive or industrial about them.

Saw them last night, and a few things: one, Kay Kay were much better than they were.  Two, those guys must be fucking deaf.  Its like they refused to say "that's enough volume" during their soundcheck, and when they started playing it was so loud I could barely make out what was going on other than the drums and CHUG CHUG.  I'm sure I would have liked it better had their volume been dialed back a little, but I didn't really get into it.  Not to mention the TONS of stupid feedback all the time.  That got annoying real quick.  I might check out the EP just to get a better perspective on them.

Best part about their set was that once it was over, all of their diehard fans left (they're from Atlanta, so a lot of their local fans came out) and let me get closer to the stage for TDH.  ;D

Listening now, not bad. There's definitely no industrial at all in their sound, though.

I've had a ringing in my ears ever since that performance and I'm actually worried that I might have serious hearing loss from it.  I enjoyed the show, but I was way too close (front row) at the beginning and it was way too loud to be that close.  Good show, but they definitely needed to ease up on the volume.

THANK YOU for actually forming your own opinion instead of allowing yourself to follow the "THEY'RE GREAT" crowd.  Your post mirrors my first post.  I don't care how good their EP is, they sucked big floppy donkey dick live.  As Zepp will attest to, I was quite happy to see them leave the stage; and to some degree I think they effected my ability to enjoy Kay Kay.

God dammit guys.  Here I am trying to conform to the popular opinion of the band to make myself cooler and generally more attractive to women and now there's conflicting opinions on whether they're good or not.  I'd best wait and figure out which side has more support so I can disregard my own sentiment and flock to it!

But seriously, I don't think there even is a "they're great" crowd yet.  I enjoyed the show, despite the volume.  Come at me.
