Your most anticipated September release?
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:08:31 PM »
So for prog lovers the month of September is seeing some big releases. The ones I know of are Dream Theater, Opeth, and Pain of Salvation...

Which one are you most excited for???

Normally it would be Dream Theater by a mile... but I wasn't too excited about the single and the teaser. I wasn't a huge fan of Road Salt One at all... but it is growing on me some.

Because I'm in a Pain of Salvation mood right now, I'll give the nod to Road Salt Two.

DT, followed closely by Arch/Matheos.

Some friends of mine are releasing some EP's on a label for the first time, which is gonna be sweet, and their debut album, which they self-released, is also being released on the label I believe which I'm also super pumped for even though I already have it on CD, vinyl, as well as a digital copy. But anyways, if any of you want to check them out, you can find their music for free, that's right I said FREE, at https://www.agreatbigpileofleaves.com/.

Anyways, for major releases, it would be Dream Theater. After MP left I was really uncertain if I would like them anymore (he was the main reason I really got in to DT), but after hearing On the Backs of Angels, I'm actually really excited for the new album. Good music is good music regardless of who's playing it.

The new Opeth song got me hyped for Heritage. Can't wait to hear it.
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

Well.

Dream Theater is the clear winner. They're still my favorite band, and this is a huge album in many ways. Plus OTBOA sounds amazing compared to the last 2 releases save for a few full songs.

Thrice I am definitely looking forward to, I heard their new song and loved it...but I'm sure I'll love whatever they put out at this point.

Derek Sherinian has a new disc I definitely wanna hear. I'll check out Opeth and Anathema. Unsure if I am missing anything.

I think I'll say DT. Not long ago I'd say Opeth because I really, REALLY don't know what to expect from it, but after the concert and On the Backs of Angels, I have a strong belief the new album will be simply fucking awesome. However, I'm also very interested in the other three (SW, Opeth, Pain of Salvation).

Pain of Salvation, Bjork, and Steven Wilson would be the three that I'm most excited to hear.

Besides that, most of the other stuff that has already been covered, but to a lesser degree.

Might be offtopic, but I thought Haken was October?
Maybe I heard wrong, but my dad is a fan of them and asked in the record-store when it would be released, and they said Oct. :P

The proper release is in October, but they will be selling it at ProgPower in September and a friend shall be picking me up a copy and mailing it to me.

Easily DT is my most anticipated. Like, by a fair margin.

But I'm also super excited for Heritage.  I was cautiously optimistic when I first heard the synopsis of the album, but when I heard The Devil's Orchard, well, let's just say my DOUBT IS DEAD.

After that, I'm also really looking forward to SW's new solo stuff and Mastodon's new offering. Oh, and Anathema.

Road Salt 2 will be something I'll check out, although honestly I thought Road Salt 1 was pretty bad.  Hated the production, and Sisters was the only song that really connected with me.  But I'll still give it a shot and hope that Daniel's gotten his fill with that sound and moves on to something new for the next record.

Oh, and wasn't Redemption's This Mortal Coil supposed to be due out in September as well? I may be wrong but I could have sworn I heard September was the date somewhere.

What would be really awesome is if Nick actually kept the release date thread up to date so that we would know what is coming out when.

It would be nice if more people posted in it. Hell, I'd love to ban every single person who starts a thread about an album but fails to make a simple post in that thread with the date.

And as a bonus you have the power to edit it any time you want. :p

Either Thrice or SW. On the surface I'd say Thrice, but hearing Remainder the Black Dog got me ultra psyched for GFD.
