I look at it just the opposite ... it was such a GOOD year, there was so much to choose from it diluted the votes.

Why? It's got a lot of cool moments and is probably one of the finest debut albums in rock history not only in terms of raw ability but definitely songwriting. I know some people don't much care for Dominici but his voice actually seems to match the mood of this album better than JLB's since he really sounds like he's coming from a painful place when the lyrics call for it. Beyond that it's probably their most accessible album in that despite the prog prerequisites like time signature changes and otherworldly shredding, the songs seem to have a very consistent vibe within themselves while remaining quite varied compared to one another.

You really should give it a good full spin once or twice in the next month. I've found listening to something I previously had no love for while drinking or smoking helps a lot toward finding little seedlings of interest and really helps me get into stuff I may have missed out on altogether.

We are on a DT forum, so DT is theoretically the common musical ground here. The fact that WDADU is even in contention here kind of proves how bad 1989 was for music.

It feels like more of a case of "I don't really like Dream Theater that much, but I had a vote on a forum, so what the fuck".

1989 was a great year for music, but the best album didn't even make it to the second round (Disintegration). WDADU isn't anything good at all.

PHM should win, but I doubt it will.
