Album of the Year 1989 - nomination phase
« on: August 03, 2011, 11:46:27 PM »
Rules:
-Post your 5 favorite albums from 1989; the order does not matter.  If you only like less than 5, list those.  Just no more than 5.
-List the band name first and then the album name.  Like this: Band name - Album name
-If you change your mind, edit your original post.  Do not post them again.
-Only studio and live albums will be counted; no best of, compilations, etc.
-Posts that you do not follow these rules will not be counted.

Nomination phase will last two days.

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique. This is the only album that needs to be nominated.

I would like to say that this is such a cool thing, the whole album of the year thing. It really shows that there can always be great albums found from any given year. Kudos for doing this.

My pick for worst year (based on the years I've voted in) was definitely 1988. What's yours?

I'd have to say '88 as well, I mean Fabulous Disaster from Exodus came out that year, but it's an overrated album despite a few solid gems on it, and there's not much else that I can say I LOVE.

Mr. Big - Mr. Big
Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Whitesnake - Slip of the Tongue
SRV - In Step
Skid Row - Skid Row

I would've considered Kiss' Hot in the Shade, but truth be told, it's a terrible Kiss album.  Others include Tesla's Great Radio Controversy, Blue Murder s/t, Satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream, and Badlands s/t.

To be honest, I chose it for lack of anything else, but it has a few good tracks, maybe about 5 at a stretch. As an album it's pretty weak though. I don't think any of their albums between Animalize and Revenge were very good, but they still had some great songs.

Although Revenge is a legitimate contender for my 1992 list (but I've got so many for 1992 it probably won't make the cut, unfortunately).

'89 was probably one of my favorite years

Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Whitesnake - Slip of the Tongue
Tesla - The Great Radio Controversy (where's the love?)
Skid Row - S/T
Rush - Presto (my first Rush album too... and it's highly under-rated)

Lots of honorable mentions:
WDADU
Extreme
Great White .. Twice Shy
Queen .. The Miracle
White Lion .. Big Game
Mr. Big
Danger Danger
Warrant ... Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich
Aerosmith ... Pump

Plus a lot of what's already been mentioned.  Great year (especially for the Hair Nation).

Yeah, it's been fun.  And it really shows how diverse the users as a whole here are when it comes to music taste.  Sure, the winners are usually predictable, but when you look at all of the different stuff that has been nominated, it really shows how much different stuff we all listen to. :tup :tup

I'm surprised how many other people here have some similar tastes. It's been a good way to create some music discussion.

Kev, I'm not sure if you've mentioned this elsewhere (since I only came back recently), but are you stopping at a certain point, or taking it up to now?

DTVT already did the 00s and I think most of the 90s (he stopped at one point 'cause he was too busy to keep up with it, he said), so yeah, I will probably stop with the 80s.  I have an idea or two of what to do next, so we shall see.
