Food connoisseurs (lonestar?) help
« on: July 31, 2011, 01:54:50 PM »
I'm trying this place called "Genghis Grill" tonight with a group of about 10 other people. As you can probably guess, it's a Mongolian grill. I love (some) Asian sauces, but others I hate. I can't stand sweet stuff with my Asian food; I have to have it spicy - a little bit of kick. However, I eat Asian food rarely enough that I know nothing about the sauces. These are from the menu... Given my tastes, which of these would make a good combination?

3G Sauce
Chili Garlic Sauce
Dragon Sauce
Ginger Citrus Sauce
Honey Soy Sauce
Island Teriyaki Sauce
Khan Pao Sauce (Tempted to try it so I can say "KHAAAAAAAN!")
Mongo BBQ Sauce
Red Curry Peanut Sauce
Roasted Tomato Sauce
Stir Fry Sauce
Sweet N Sour Sauce
Szechuan Sauce
Listen! Do you smell something?

I'm the same as you. I hate sweet sauces and like my food spicy. I would go with the chili garlic sauce and only that. I wonder what the dragon sauce is though.

Tough call.  Those sound like fairly generic names for sauces, so it's hard to tell.  The server should be able to recommend the right sauce for you, otherwise they shouldn't be working there.  Of note, the Khan Pao, Red Curry Peanut, and Szechuan sauces contain shellfish, in case you are allergic.

I think Szechuan cuisine in general is known for being a little spicy, so maybe that's a good choice.

I'm with Coz on this one.  Not a big conossieur of it myself, but they do sound like generic sauces.  From what I see, the szechuan and the kahn pao should be good, but check with the server too.

Just ask the waiter when you're there?

I've crossed out the ones that are (or are likely to be) sweet.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

It's a buffet so they don't have waiters? It's also foreign so the staff doesn't speak English well? Condescending sentences with question marks?
Listen! Do you smell something?

I see what you did there.

But yeah, I got the garlic chili sauce as well as a few other spices. I had some pasta with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Place was pretty damn good. Gave me mad gas, though.

You didn't tell me it was a buffet? Surely they will understand "Sweet?" and be able to reply with yes or no? And I wasn't being condescending at all..?

He said it's a Mongolian grill.  That's sort of a backwards buffet:  You pile up all the (uncooked) ingredients that you want on a plate and give it to them to cook.

That way, if you don't like it, you can't blame them, since it was your own damn "recipe".   ;)

Oh I know something like that. There's a Chinese restaurant near where I live that does the same. You pick all the things, pick a sauce, and one of the cooks will make it for you in a wok. Actually I don't know if it's Chinese since you can also pick from an assortment of sushis but whatever.

Diabetes infect young, old, women, men, and here Karl Malone's whole thing. Why they call it diabetes? They get people all riled up. That's why Karl Malone say change name diabetes to livebetes. That way, people won't go walking around saying "oh no, I'm gonna diabetes." Instead, they saying, "look out world, livebetes coming through."
