Spotify
« on: July 29, 2011, 11:02:18 AM »
Hey!

Do people use this service/program now that it's been released in the US? I've used it since 2008 and I think it's great! The reason i'm asking is because I read in the newspaper today that only a week after the release they got sued. What are your thoughts on Spotify?

Also, when I opened it up today there was this banner telling me to invite some US friends to Spotify Free.
Now I don't know if any of you are interested, but if anyone needs an invite I've got like 34 left. So just PM me if you want one :)

Sorry if this is considered spam or something.

Are you from the US?

Yeah I really think you get ALOT for a small price. I'm just really amazed that that it only seems to be a big hit here in Sweden! I mean almost every person I know uses Spotify (except grandparents).

It's pretty big in the UK - it wasn't availble in the US till recently which was a big user barrier, good old record labels!

Yep, I'm a Yank.

Went with the free version for a few days before I decided to upgrade. Awesome decision, I'm loving it. I think I've purchased my last CD.

I have Premium ( UK ) and i still buy CDs. They sound better and they're more reliable and I like having something physical.

If you pay for the premium version, yes. I think you can also make offline playlists and stuff.

$10/month is not bad at all for unlimited music anywhere...especially to hear all kinds of new music I wouldn't otherwise hear...

Exactly. First thing I did was make myself a playlist of all the music I'd been meaning to get around to trying but never got the chance to.

Here in Sweden, Spotify has become more or less standard...it's awesome when you're on a party and anyone can just go up to Spotify and search for a song you'd like to hear (well, unless the person has really bad taste :P ). I'm glad to see it becoming big in USA as well. :) It's an awesome service.

Personally, I think It's a great way to find new artists and releases and have a listen before you decide wether you wanna buy a certain record. Also, the artists gets paid each time you listen to a track. They don't get paid alot though and that is a constant discussion and I hope they will get more but the way I see it, we live in a time where more and more people are downloading music (and movies) for free and I think the artists would rather see a service (Spotify) where people pay a fee to have access to loads of music every month and also generate some dollars to themselfs rather than NOTHING (downloading) which has been the way for some years now. Plus, Because of Spotify, I've become a fan of several bands and have attended several concerts so it's nice in that aspect aswell.
