Finding DT in places you wouldn't expect
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:13:26 AM »
So, my Dad has recently tasked me with writing up some drummer profiles for a website he's working on, and there's about 60 to do (hey, at £10 for a two paragraph profile, it isn't so bad). Now some of the drummers I have to write up about are from my favourite bands, such as Gavin Harrison, and some were auditionees for DT, such as Marco Minneman and Thomas Lang, which was a surprise in itself. Today I was researching Matt Steele, and came upon a Myspace page with the same name so I thought I'd check it out.

There was a Wait for Sleep cover.

I'm well aware that it's the wrong Myspace page and all, but I found it pretty interesting that whilst doing something unrelated to DT (as far as I know Matt Steele from Phinius Gage has nothing to do with DT), I will still find something to do with them.

Has this kind of thing ever happened to you guys?

https://www.myspace.com/mattasteele Not an amazing cover, but still alright.

I havent personally come across anything... but I know someone came across a ToT poster in a spiderman comic panel
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I remember I saw a television programme a couple of months ago about hotels or something, and there was a guy with a DT shirt on it.

Are you in the UK? Did this focus on a foreign guy (think he was Polish) working in the hotel kitchen, but coming in to work drunk etc.?

I don't really watch very much TV, this just happened to be on when I was in the room and weirdly enough it's what I thought of when I saw this thread  :lol

I heard Panic Attack and IWBY in trailers for a very awful tv program in a Greek channel. That was really unexpected.

Songs from Scenes From A Memory in the Dragon Ball Z movie "The History of Trunks". What's funny is, I had that VHS years before I found out who Dream Theater was, or had even heard of progressive rock/metal music outside of a few Rush songs, but I didn't know ABOUT prog at all. I just thought it was awesome background/fighting music.

Yep, i remember that too. The intro was played every time there was a break between ski jumps. I don't know about different sports though.

Same here. When I first heard "Home" on the movie with the sitar, I thought it was like the most amazing music I've ever heard. Ironic that when my friend first showed me DT a few years later, the first song he showed me was Home. Needless to say, I shat my pants 100x over.

It literally starts within the first 5 minutes with the Home intro. Youtube has it.

I love how the image features a drawing of an attractive-looking woman with short/insubstantial clothing, and all most of us are interested in is the 'ToT' poster drawn in the background.

The Timberwolves used Metropolis as their entrance music. It was rather cool with all the lights down and the Metropolis intro being used over that.

I heard that they play TGP at a Laker game.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Went to a Kansas City Royals game and they played metropolis. it was pretty shocking, honestly.
Seemed like it was part of their regular game opener too.

I was at a local festival which has a rock tent but is mainly geared towards classic acts (mainly old british punk/new wave bands) and washed up pop acts. Anyway, I was in said rock tent and in between bands they were playing Systematic Chaos on shuffle. Unexpected but cool.

I heard Caught In a Web blaring inside a bar I walked by once...and a number of songs from LTE2 were used as background music at an airshow I recently attended.  That's all I got.
