Far and Pearl are two of the best songs on YOTBR.

Agreed.

For me Pearl of the stars is an incredibly beautiful track.

Man, I know that with a few more listens The Afterman will supplant my constant shuffling of GA1/IKS3 and become my new favorite album of theirs (with the fight now becoming if I like Ascension or Descension more).
Joe and I in the same squad is basically the virtual equivalent of us plowing a rape van through an elementary school playground at recess.

Yeah the whole album is brilliant.

Now which of the two is better...

I didn't think the first was that special at all tbh, great but not more. But after this album clicked I might go back and check it out again.

I just bought a ticket to a Coheed and Cambria concert, along with Between The Buried and Me, in a couple months. However, I've never been a big fan of either band. I have a buddy who's going, and I figure it will be fun regardless, but now that I have some incentive I'm going to give these guys a more serious try. Any advice on a starting point, album rankings, additional info I might want to know, etc.?

Thanks

Probably a good idea to start with the latest album really (both parts). After that, check out Good Apollo Vol 1 and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth.

Although I may be alone in this opinion, I'm going to recommend Good Apollo Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow. This is the album that really got me to love C&C. I had In keeping secrets and Good Apollo volume 1 for a few months, but this band really didn't click with me until listening to Good Apollo volume 2.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm currently checking out In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, which begs the question, whats with the album names?

Well Second Stage Turbine Blade is the 2nd part of the story, IKSOSE3 is the third, Good Apollo pt. 1 and 2 is the 4th and last, YOTBR is the first.

The Afterman takes place way before those albums.

Ah, I see, just read about it on Wikipedia. I didn't realize they were related to a graphic novel.

Not really, the graphic novels are a part of the concept created by Claudio.

I am, but I'll be disappointed if they play Dark Side Of Me. That's the worst song on the album. Sentry the Defiant or The Hard Sell would be a much better choice.

I can't find a "worst song" as of right now, maybe I'm still on the "new album high" but Iron Fist is the least I liked, but just because I got used to the acoustic version that has so many feels

IMO, Iron Fist is just dumb. Its a turd in a pile of gold. Every other track on the album is awesome, but Iron Fist just plain sucks. again, IMO.
But seriously, think of how amazing Number City would sound with Coheed accompanied by Conan's band! That would be the best shit ever

Holy fuck this show is terrible. I can't believe I have to sit through this. Granted, I've always hated late-night shows, but still...this is painfully unfunny.

Also, Iron Fist is an incredible song.

Just stopping by to say that In Keeping Secrets is better than I've given it credit for over the years, but still not on the same level as the Apollo albums or Ascension.

That said Second Stage is still a good at best album.

Yeah, having just got into their music a bit more, I definitely agree with this. It is by far my least favorite so far.
