Star Trek TNG movie reboot ? ( Hypothetical )
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:55:14 PM »
So, seeing as the TOS movie reboot was so damn good... Who would you cast in the TNG movie reboot ?

As bad as Nemesis was - I thought Tom Hardy could make a good (good) Picard if he didn't mind going bald again :P

Him or Christian Bale maybe...

I'll have to think about the others :)

No Jim Carrey as data though. A bit too obvious and would overact like Brent Spiner in Generations.

Google "Tom Hiddleston Brent Spiner" one of the pics should be a fan made version of him as Data.

How about the kids who played kid versions of the cast in that god awful episode.  They should be old enough by now right?

Oh God I had this huge long post of nerd-rant about why a TNG reboot movie couldn't possibly work, and then I saw the real gist of the thread was who you would cast.

My answer of course is to cast Wil Wheaton as everyone.

Actually, with the beard he's not too far off.  If he put on 20 pounds he'd be a dead ringer.

I'd like to see a re-imagined Enterprise-D too. I've just never liked the design of the "D".

Mind you - Enterprise "C" was worse !!

My favourite design has always been the "A" shape. Ever since I saw Wrath of Khan.

I've always loved that ship. The new Enterprise ( 2009 movie ) is really nice too.

Barely even saw it though. It was a still image on a screen in the background of an episode of Voyager ?

Enterprise, not Voyager. But it was still pretty sweet. The only thing I can't stand about the new Enterprise is the engine room, I have no clue why they'd completely disregard the original engine room design and throw in some beer factory room instead.

But as far as casting goes, are we supposed to be making serious suggestions? Or just joking around about who might look like someone else?

Cast who you think would be best suited to the role :)

It's 2:30am and i'm having trouble thinking of any actors let alone good TNG roles :P

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard

Come on, is there really any other option?

James McAvoy as Picard, only because after watching First Class that's how i imagine PS looked at that age, even if he doesn't resemble him all that much.

Terry Crews as Worf, just for the lols.

Except Stewart and Frakes the other TNG actors would probably jump at the chance of doing another movie (given how all their careers completely stopped after Star Trek)
And they could always do a "Search for Spock" type of move to get Data back. I always had the impression that B-4 had been planted for that reason, in case Nemesis turned out a big success.

I've thought for a while that if/when Trek ever comes back to television, rebooting TNG would be the safe bet. TOS is already being used in the new movies, so if they want a bankable return to TV, rebooting TNG would be a good way to avoid stepping on the toes of the movies too much. Because when the average person thinks Star Trek, they think of the Enterprise, either TOS or TNG.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

The comic book companion to the TOS reboot actually deals with the B4 thing Something about a backup copy of Data being installed into B4's body, so Data is alive again.  And captain of the Enterprise-E.

You're probably right though, all the other actors probably need money unless they can hijack another series finale like Frakes and Sirtis. :lol

I could see the other actors jumping at the chance but Stewart has a lot of working going on. Shakespeare as well as voicing Stan's boss on American Dad!.

It's exactly the same shape as the motion picture, wrath of khan and search for spock enterprise - just with an A on it.

No it's not! That Enterprise was a refit of the original NCC-1701 Constitution class from TOS, which got blown up. This was an entirely new ship of the same class to replace the one that got blown up. How dare you imply that it was simply the exact same studio model with an "A" stuck on. :blob:
