I can sort of relate. I hate hate HATE deep water where I can't see the bottom. It freaks me the fuck out, especially if I'm all alone.

Actually, I just hate being in deep water when I'm the only one. I can only be in a pool by myself for so long until I'm outta there faster than Oprah on a baked ham. I guess Jaws really stuck with me or something.

Honestly, I don't have any phobias. Except that when the light begins to change, I sometimes feel a little strange, a little anxious when it's dark.

I'm afraid of spiders and snakes, but not deathly afraid of them. I'm kinda afraid of public speaking, but not much anymore. I guess I'm not really afraid of much.

Something that can kill you isn't a phobia. Or else we'd all have phobias of death, torture or jersey shore. What youu experience is fine.

The only phobia I have is probably of wasps. I always hated wasps since I got stung by one when I was like three years old. I generally tend to ignore them when I can as I should, but if one comes close to me and I'm unprepared for it I freak out slightly.

People, most of these aren't phobias. Not every fear is a phobia.

Some of you guys have Phobias the same way Portnoy has OCD.

that's a good point, adami.

a phobia constitutes a certain thought process, not simply being afraid of something.

that being said, it sounds like agoraphobia - not agraphobia, which is totally different.

I'm surprised how many people actually share the OP's uncomfortableness. Out of interest, how many of you go swimming regularly in the ocean?

I've only swam in the ocean 3-4 times; all of which were when I was visiting several islands in the Caribbean.

Other than that, never. Where I live, everything is surrounded by the Great Lakes, and I hardly swim in those either.
