Thanks, stonestef. More than not it takes "bump-for-art" jesus to get everyone back in the mood to create something. People don't create as often as they should. Hopefully by the beginning of next week I can have a new visceral done. It's looking really good so far.

Picture, This:

Nice! I'll be waiting to see it! I've been working on two things but they both still need a lot of work so I 've got nothing to post for now.

Yeah, I know the feeling. More than not I'd like to post something that I've done rather than just talking. But hell, it's a forum, why not.
So in the meantime I think I'll just post the works of artists I like.

Jef Bertels (For those who don't know, he is the art behind Ayreon)

Roger Dean (For those who don't know, he is the art behind Yes)

Jenny Saville

Chuck Close

Salvador Dali

I made a table in school probably 3 years ago and painted this on free hand.

I like! Freehand is hard to do, but you do it very well! The only thing I'd critique is the way the A and E at the end have different angles for the curvature ends. Otherwise I really like it, and I'm not even an Alterbridge fan.  :tup

Jarlaxle,I hadn't seen that. Good work, especially for freehand! Here is something I am still working on, started mostly as a devil kind of thing but ended up more of a faun. He also has a body which is pretty much completed. I'm working on the hair now. What I like about him the most is that I started with no idea about what to do, my brother's wife just wanted me to start anything so she could see how this program works (ZBrush for anyone interested). So, what started as something random that was supposed to take only 10 minutes of my time, ended up being something that I am proud of and eventually spent 3 days on.

I've been really busy in the art world lately; lots of sketches and paintings, plus contests and such...sorry for the phone quality pictures, but:

Thank you! The first picture is darker than it is in real life, unfortunately, so you can't see the table and all of the doily. My mother was speechless, though!

This is my submission for a contest that requested a creature technologically enhanced, something like a cyborg. The model is 3d, the flames and the smoke were added later with Photoshop.

I wouldn't call that talent, just technique and software knowledge.
Thanks, though.

Pffft call it what you want, to me that looks like talent. Either that or it's a tiger, I can't quite tell.

It's a talented tiger, what with the walking from a two-dimensional plane into real life and all that bidnesz...

I'm trying to finish this picture but I need a decent forest reference, along with references for what certain colours would look like at night

Alirocker, I recommend watching ET. For two reasons, A) the forest in the beginning and throughout is used very atmospherically and in both light and day. You can get a sense of  color and contrast between lighting and texture. and B) it's a great movie.

I also only just watched Pochahontas for the first time whilst babysitting my niece. I was a deprived child.

...all the more reason to see it. But for the love of god, GET YOUR HANDS ON A VHS COPY. DO NOT WATCH THE DVD> Spielberg got a George Lucas complex and changed how ET looks from the original.

Haven't they ever released the real version on DVD at all?! :(
Even Lucas managed a half-assed version of the original movies on DVD.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

IN THAT CASE just watch the DVD it's basically the same forest. Good use of angles, too. You'll like it.

BTW: finally finished that fucking drawing I've been stuck on.

Thanks Stonestef. I should be starting on a new one soon. I'm thinking more anthropomorhpic figures and shapes like the one before soundscape, but it's mostly whatever comes to mind.

Alternately, I'll be starting some work for this one show called Roxibition. I can't give anything away more than it's not a traditional art show, but it's gonna be awesome.
