So, I saw DT for the first time yesterday...
« on: July 25, 2011, 09:14:48 AM »
And they were immense. Absolutely top form, better than I've ever seen them on any of the DVDs. There were about 8 people between me and the barrier, so we managed to get up pretty close! James was on top form, Petrucci rocked, I loved Jordan's tilting keyboard as well! Myung seemed to be having a great time (I think I saw him crack a smile at the end) and Mangini...Jesus christ that man was on fire, his drumming was spot on, and I have never been more amazed by a drum solo in my entire life. But you know what was the best thing? They were having an amazing time. Petrucci actually went 'wow' when he saw the crowd, and Mangini was laughing and smiling and it was infectious.

Oh, and James managed to get 30 odd thousand people fist pumping like guidos.

Oh, and my throat kills from singing along to all the songs.

TL;DR: Dream Theater are great live.

I will take your word for it. Will probably see them the first time in the winter or spring. And from what you said, it sounds like I wont be disapointed. Great!

Nice, I hope I get to see them this tour, especially seeing as Peruvian Skies seems like a pretty much guaranteed song, as with UAGM.

(Although, I would hope they played Trial Of Tears, should I see them.)
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

That would fulfil my biggest wish regarding a DT concert (only seeing LTL alone)...

OTBOA was immense as well. It was all just so good...... Words can't explain......

I remember my first DT show.  It was the FII tour.  MP had short hair.  JLB had short hair.  JP had medium length straight hair.  DS had the sunglasses on the forehead and JM was pretty much just JM as always.  The venue was a dance club and it was standing room only.  We were about 15 feet from the stage and it was so cool.

I hope that Dream Theater hits up quite a few spots in Canada this time around so I can see them once or twice.

The performance at High Voltage was truly awesome. I was standing right in front of Petrucci, and the expression on his face when they took the stage, and saw the crowd, was something special.  ;D

Sounds awesome, can't wait for them to come to Sweden! And god dammit, they better anounce some scandinavian tour dates soon! :censored

I've seen them on every tour since Octavarium, and I'm not gonna miss them this time around!

Yeah, can't wait for the next tour. I was lucky enough to see them saturday, and I must say, they've never sounded so good to me. I don't know if it's because they bring those extra 2% when doing a gig like this (I've never seen that level of focus when they've played at Hovet in Sthlm), or if they're having more fun than before. Either way, I think we'll be in for something great when they come through Europe next year.

Petrucci was spot on the whole time, Mangini was an absolute monster, and Myung sounded like a friggin tank rolling over our heads... Good times!

Same here! My first DT show was Munich, on the FII tour. I only recently had gotten When Dream And Day Unite, and didn't even know their other, more recent material. Boy, was I in for a treat!

And just to remind you of the times, there were lava lamps! And some fans had prepared a large sign with a crossed out megaphone, properly displayed for the occasion when James used the thing in "Just let me Breathe". Or Mike Portnoy and Derek throwing drumsticks between the two of them. Ytse Jam in the "Fasten your seatbelts" version. And finally, Nightmare Cinema

Ah bliss, I'm going to Vienna tomorrow, on quite short notice. Can't wait to see them again, and I can't wait to see MM!
