Coheed and Cambria has a lot of great ballads: The Light & The Glass, Wake Up, Mother Superior and Pearl of the Stars.  Also Claudio can turn almost any of their songs into a ballad with a good acoustic version (see Elf Tower New Mexico on the recent SSTB anniversary tour).

A7X - I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1 , Strength of the World
Strength of the World isn't a ballad. I'm not a big fan of ballads, but since Extreme is one of my favorite bands I got to mention Hole Hearted. It's more of a folk song though.

Pigs on the Wing by Floyd is a good one too.

Y&T-I Believe In You
Scorpions-Lady Starlight

And ohhh, 80s power ballads. "Don't Know What You Got (Til It's Gone)" by Cinderella, I Remember You by Skid Row, Alone Again by Dokken-gimme those big hair band power ballads!

Okay.  These aren't ALL 80's tunes, but most are.

Cinderella - Heartbreak Station
Poison - Every Rose (though I detest it)
Warrant - Heaven, I Saw Red
L.A. Guns - The Ballad of Jayne
Enuff Z'Nuff - Fly High Michelle
Whitesnake - Is This Love
Slaughter - Fly to the Angels
Winger - Miles Away
Night Ranger - Goodbye, Sister Christian
Bon Jovi - Dead or Alive, Never Say Goodbye, I'll Be There For You
White Lion - When the Children Cry
Europe - Carrie
Cheap Trick - The Flame
Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go
Firehouse - When I Look Into Your Eyes
Kiss - Forever
Tesla - Love Song
Journey - Open Arms
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home
Bad English - When I See You Smile
McAuley Schenker Group - Anytime (A personal favorite)
Extreme - More Than Words
Mr. Big - To Be With You
Sheriff - When I'm With You
Def Leppard - Love Bites

Eh.  That's plenty.  Also, I'll go out on a limb and say that Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is one of the original power ballads.

Warrant's I Saw Red  is a great song. And I'm also a fan of the MSG Anytime. And from Winger I'd go for Who's The One from Pull.

From the pop world- Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton is a great song.

And here's a link to the Giant song from my earlier post. Dann Huff is a great singer and guitarist.

Yeah, I don't think you can go past Headed For A Heartbreak for Winger.  Rainbow in the Rose too, but that's not really a ballad.

Poison - Every Rose (though I detest it)

That's funny.  I HATE that song.  Mainly because of the way he pronounces thorn and that was their biggest hit!

Better not read my sig then... It's a good ballad- played to death of course, but I still like it. Poison's best ballads were Fire And Ice and Lay Your Body Down On Me, both from when they had good guitar players.

Queen, Jealousy, Lily Of The Valley, Dear Friends, You Take My Breath Away, Who Wants To Live Forever, TATDOOL, Show Must Go On.

Right on with your props to Queen, but your forgot Spread Your Wings and Teo Torriatte.  Which I guess shows just how good they are at balladry, with so many of their best songs being ballads.

We would be remiss for neglecting  Love of my Life.

Also PT has so many that I couldn't possible name them all.  A Smart Kid,lazarus, trains, shedmovedon

Gloomy sunday: Very old song. Altough I only listened to Björk's version. Beautiful.

Also, most of Portishead's work.

Lots of Blackmore's Night songs

And a hidden gem: I let the music speak by ABBA

You know what? If your talking about ballads... you gotta mention BOYZ II MEN. They made some of the best and smoothest songs in the 90s. A lot of their ballads include

End of the Road
It's So Hard To Say Goodbye
Down On Bended Knee
Water Runs Dry
I'll Make Love To You
A Song For Mama

God damn, that a list of great music right there

Dokken's Jaded Heart is another good one.

Also:  Alone Again

And there's some good ones on Don's solo album (Up from the Ashes), although I can't remember the titles right now.

Ahhhhh, Savatage, the masters of the power ballad.

I can think of a lot of bands that were good at writing metal ballads; WASP, Scorpions, Winger, Yngwie, Symphony X; hell, even DT themselves have a few good ones, but seriously, between When the Crowds are Gone, Believe, All That I Bleed, Alone You Breathe, Back to a Reason and countless others, there is no doubt in my mind that Savatage writes the best ballads.  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

Queensryche has been mentioned a few times but everyone seems to forget their best ballad. London

Fates Warning - Island in the Stream, A Pleasant Shade of Gray part IX and Chasing Time
Deep Purple - Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming

Ahhhhh, Savatage, the masters of the power ballad.

Pretty much this.

Believe
When the Crowds Are Gone
All That I Bleed
Summer's Rain
Strange Wings
This Is The Time
Staring Into the Sun
Watching You Fall
Back To A Reason
Tonight He Grins Again
If I Go Away
Can You Hear Me Now
Hourglass

etc...

Pink Floyd - "High Hopes"
Bruce Springsteen - "Magic"
Nine Inch Nails - "Hurt"
Motörhead - "One More F*cking Time"
Deep Purple - "Clearly Quite Absurd"
Eagles - "Waiting in the Weeds"

All of those songs are amazing and should be heard by everyone.
