There's a couple of options:

1. Norway is part of the war against Libya. So it could be Gadaffi.
2. Norway is currently holding some Al-Qaeda members in prison, and some anti-islamic cartoons were pusblished there some time ago. So it could be Al-Qaeda.
3. It could have something to do with a new oil rig they're planning to set up. Hence why it was outside of the building of the ministry of oil.

The house started shaking. I thought it was the thunder. And i live 12 miles away. There was also a guy wearing a police uniform, who started shooting at kids at some youth seminar for "Arbeiderpartiet", the prime ministers party. I think 5 people got shot. It's crazy

Word is coming in that the shooter on the island has been captured alive. Hopefully he'll be ID'd soon.

This is insane. I live only an hour away from Oslo. To watch these scenes on the news is crazy! Im truly, utterly shocked. I hope all my friends in Oslo are ok! FUCK!

No one I know has been involved in any accidents with regards to the bombings .. but I had a friend who walked past that very spot just 15 minutes before the bomb went off.

New week im schedueled to move to Oslo, only 5 minutes walk away from the governemnt headquartes.. sick

Yeah, this is awful. Since we don't have a TV, husband and I are watching the continuous news on tv on an iPhone and refreshing 10-15 tabs in Safari every few minutes... All "mine" seem to be good, only one we haven't heard from in Oslo, my aunt, is an emergency department worker, so she's probably busy with...well, the emergencies...

Update: Apparently the shooter is a 32 year old Norwegian national; Anders Behring Breivik.

Some are reporting that he was seen at the site of the bombing minutes before it happened as well. It's looking fairly likely right now that a lone nut is responsible for this terrible tragedy. They're trying to get a motive from him now.

It's been a crazy day and night. I don't live in the city, but it's basically in my neighborhood. All people I know are OK, but several have heard and felt the blast from quite a distance away.
It might not seem big elsewhere in the world where bigger things have happened, but stuff like this never happens here. To us, a single murder is a huge tragedy. And when one guy goes to a political youth camp and executes 80 people... that's just impossible to understand.

While all of the information isn't in, it's starting to sound like something along these lines.
Basically, he's batshit insane (as far to the left as I am, I'm not going to lump this fucker in with people who hold legitimate right wing positions), and viewed these innocent children as the enemy because of political reasons.

He had political motives. Norwegian newspaper reports:

The terrorist is anti-islam. He is a conservative christian, and a nationalist. He is strongly opposed to multiculturalism. He is not a "lone-wolf", he is a member of right-wing extremist groups in eastern Norway. He believes the media have failed by not being Islam-critical.

Atleast 91 people dead now.. Im speechless. Im sad, angry, frightened but at the same time very happy all the people i know in Oslo are safe.
Witness reports that there was atleast two shooters, and that the guy they caught where talking to someone on a handsfree headset.
I hope they get the bastards and lock them up for good. For a country as small as Norway this is truly huge and completely devestating.

Kinda lost for words .. at least 84 people, most of them teenagers, are reported dead just from the shooting at the youth camp. Then add a blown up government headquarter where the PM works on a day to day basis, where at least 7 people are reported dead as of now..

Apparently the bastard has made orders for at leat 6 metric tonnes of synthetic furtilizer through a company he runs... one of the main ingredients in home-made bombs. Insane!

Also, I had a cousin at that island .. luckily he was a fast runner and a good swimmer. He swam to the mainland for safety (and that is a pretty fucking long swim!!). Legend he is, and I'll tell him when I can reach him. He's 17, I can't imagine how he must be feeling right now.. A lot of the 84 dead from that island are people who have drowned trying to swim away.. Wouldn't disregard the possibilty for finding even more dead the next few days.

This is the first thing I thought of yesterday when I saw a picture of the government building. It definitely didn't have the same amount of damage, but it really reminded me of Oak City.
