Robert Johnson – King Of The Delta Blues Singers
Pet Sounds- The Beach Boys
I was four years old and had seen an old guy play blues at some festival. I was hooked. Considering my mother was an opera singer, there was ALWAYS music playing in my house. It was the 60's- so folk, rock, country and western and of course classical was always in "rotation", but something about the blues hit me like a tidal wave. I picked this record out at a store, and my mom bought it for me. I played that damn thing over and over and over again.
I played the Beach Boys record alot too, but RJ was the first of about 2,000 for me. Being a student of music and a professional singer as well, my mom really let me experiment with a ton of music, and in fact she even got into a lot of the stuff I would bring home growing up. I recall being about 14 and bringing my first Sabbath record home, and my friend Jeff saying "Dude, do you think your mom's gonna let you play that?" She wound up breaking down the tri tone for us, and explaining the historical significance to the "devil in music".
My friends all thought my mom was super cool.
