Your first album?
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:21:45 AM »
What was everyone here's first album?

I'm guessing for the fogies and those in the 30s-40s  it'll be something awesome like Rush or Queen, or us in the 20's it'll be something really embarrassing like  Nickelback or 3 Doors Down, and for the teens it'll be something really awesome which wasn't purchased until thousands of other awesome albums had already been downloaded.  ;D

Anyway, I'll start:

Creed- Human Clay.  :P

My first CD was this collection by John Lennon, I bought it in 1995.
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

It was a Wierd Al compilation CD. I don't have it anymore. The first CD I bought that I still have and listen to was Weezer's first self titled album.

Fuck yes!!  Two Fires is a great one, probably my fav Barnsey record after Freight Train Heart. Barnestorming was an excellent live album too.

Robert Johnson – King Of The Delta Blues Singers
Pet Sounds- The Beach Boys

I was four years old and had seen an old guy play blues at some festival. I was hooked. Considering  my mother was an opera singer, there was ALWAYS music playing in my house. It was the 60's- so folk, rock, country and western and of course classical was always in "rotation", but something about the blues hit me like a tidal wave. I picked this record out at a store, and my mom bought it for me. I played that damn thing over and over and over again.

I played the Beach Boys record alot too, but RJ was the first of about 2,000 for me. Being a student of music and a professional singer as well, my mom really let me experiment with a ton of music, and in fact she even got into a lot of the stuff I would bring home growing up. I recall being about 14 and bringing my first Sabbath record home, and my friend Jeff saying "Dude, do you think your mom's gonna let you play that?" She wound up breaking down the tri tone for us, and explaining the historical significance to the "devil in music".  :lol :lol My friends all thought my mom was super cool.

I find it funny that Black Sabbath used to be that "parental taboo" band, and now they're on the radio all the time.

It makes me think that bands like Deicide, Dying Fetus, etc. might eventually get some radio play :P

That's because most of the people that listened to them during that period are now parents themselves. :lol

Yup, and it isn't far different from other examples, like jazz or rock going from devil music to standards and classics.

Fuck yes!!  Two Fires is a great one, probably my fav Barnsey record after Freight Train Heart. Barnestorming was an excellent live album too.
Agreed - 'Freight Train Heart' was also a really solid record. That period overall was great for Barnesy releases, actually. Unfortunately he sort of lost momentum after that, but eh, I still enjoy the stuff that he puts out. There were actually a few off of 'Out in the Blue' which I absolutely love (the title track, "Blue Hotel" and "Red Light" (I abhor "When Two Hearts Collide", though... eugh))

Out of interest, you haven't heard his newest release, have you?

First CD I bought was Metallica - DM :p
Hey, I bought that one last week. It was probably my 250th album or so :D.

First used CD was Green Day's Dookie, but it sucked, so I traded it in for a used copy of The Beavis And Butthead Experience. First new CD was Rob Zombie's Hellbilly Deluxe.
