I hope they're coming alone on the European tour next year. I don't care much for metal aside from the progressive bands (Opeth last tour was ok), and watching for instance Trivium will do just as little for me as watching Madonna, who doesn't even play live. I like it when bands come alone, and I get to see the exact band that I'm a fan of. Bands I don't care for are just a waste of my time.

How'd you feel if it was Queensryche coming along with DT?
Then I'd be perfectly happy! I haven't really listened to them a lot (I have countless genres and artists I'm into already, time issue), but I sure will in the future. Great band, and they're also pretty groovy. Oh, and the bassist sounds absolutely brilliant tone-wise, Myung with a tone as good and DT would be 110% perfect instead of just a 98.

I like Trivium. Ascendancy and Shogun are both great records, but Ember To Inferno and The Crusade are both rubbish IMO. Should be an interesting and amazing tour though - bring it on!

Someone recommend me a Trivium album.... something that a not as much metal head as a prog head dt fan might like is possible
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Shogun. It's not their best, but it's the one a prog fan is most likely to enjoy.

Oh well, I'm used to my favorite bands having terrible supporting acts.

Ok, Trivium isn't as bad as say, Blackguard, but I'm sick of the bands I like bringing along the screaming wonders that don't really sound anything like the headliners. Variety is cool, but if I'm going to see Kamelot, I don't want to hear shitty death metal before hand.

That being said, YOU BETTER COME TO PHOENIX!!!

Not really. I only listen to 2 or 3 prog bands, so being cool and prog has nothing to do with my opinion. Believe it or not, some people just don't like Trivium.

Hmmm. Am I also being cool and prog if I don't like Justine Bieber or Britney Spears? LOL at your post.

Am I to understand that there will be no Evening With shows in the states?!? That would suck beyond belief, even more than sitting through a suck-fest like Trivium.

Ridiculous. No Evening-Withs since 2006. Of course, it was MP that was hinting that they would return for this tour so that obviously no longer applies.

Trivium? surprising choice, but will probably turn out to be excellent. apart from Shogun i never really got into their other albums as much, but i'm stoked for the new one. Shogun, in the right mood, is an incredible album - there's no doubt about it.

but the fact that DT asked Trivium to tour with them - is that saying something about the style of their new album? *fuel the speculation....*

Um...in January of 2010, Mike confirmed to my face that the evening withs would return for this album's tour and that 12 Steps would be performed in it's entirety.

I believe it was JP and/or James who said they would like to possibly do evening with shows at some point in the future.  If the tour goes well and they extend it with more legs after the initial dates, it wouldn't surprise me to see some evening with dates for this album.  But otherwise, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Aw fuck, I hope we still get the 12 step suite live sometime... maybe not this tour but the next.

When I was at a Petrucci clinic in 2009 right before BC&SL came out, he said that they would do Evening With shows "in a few years"
