Derek's solo CD's are yet to disappoint.  Another all star list of guest musicians too.  :tup

FUCKING SWEET

I'm stoked.
One of the few artists left that I actually spend money on the physical product.
And with that line up.
Yes.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Album art is fucking sick as well. This is gonna be a keyboard driven album I presume?

In fairness, his albums are usually well balanced between guitar and keyboard.

Yeah, plus when I asked that I think I was relating this news more to Planet X stuff, since that is the only solo stuff I have heard by him.

Planet X is more jazz fusion style where as his solo albums are more prog/neocalssical metal with a good balance between guitar solos and key solos.

Oh, I didn't know he released solo stuff. I mean, not surprising, but I gotta check those out (and get reacquainted with Planet X) at some point!

That's an awesome lineup.  I haven't been crazy about PX, but if this is as others have said,  more prog/neocalssical,  I can't wait to hear it.  Simon Phillips is a beast--never hear enough about the guy (or from him).
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

it's true. All his album covers look cool as hell.

Anyone who hasn't heard his albums yet, should pick up his most recent album Molecular Heinosity or Moon Babies by Planet X. Honestly, though Planet X is more inspired by jazz than his solo stuff, it's not like they bust into a walking bass line with some noodling---Planet X is fuckin heavy as hell

I like Derek's solo stuff more than the solo stuff from any other DT member, past or present.  He's got a great groove and always works with other talented musicians.  I love Molecular Heinosity and I think Derek is actually getting better.

ya, it could easily be argued that his solo works have been guitar driven albums. i feel like i've even heard derek say this (or agree to it) in an interview (but i could be making that up).

anywayz, looking forward to an overwhelming september!  :metal

I just figured that Derek understands instrumental rock well enough to know that you pretty much have to have electric guitars.  The important thing is that the keyboards get the spotlight just as often.
