Sorry splent, that movie is awful.
Sure it's an awful movie, but for those of us who the movie was geared toward when it came out (I think I was like 9 or 10) it's pure magic. Seeing Super Mario Bros. 3 was a be-all, end-all moment for me when I was a kid. I loved this movie. It also helped that I was big into Wonder Years at the time too, so having Kevin Arnold in there didn't hurt one bit. And isn't Christian Slater the older brother and Beau Bridges is the dad? Not a bad cast. Also, I was kind of a sensitive kid anyway but the whole thing with the messed-up little brother and the death of his twin sister or whatever really, really bummed me out! I'm pretty sure I would cry when the bully kids stole his lunch box and we find out that it's full of mementos of his sister.
