Band Name Needed
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:49:10 AM »
I'm in a group playing keys and singing backup that does a lot of late 60s-80s rock... stuff like REO, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Kansas, etc.  We do not have a name, but we need one.  Any suggestions?  Nothing seems to click.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Well, you can go with the classic 70s trend of naming your group after a North American state or province.

What about British Columbia?  Or Washington (the State)?  Or Sonora?  Or how about Yukon and the Northwest Territories?

Or, you could just take a one syllable adjective and 2 syllable noun... Tan Spaniard.... Or something.

We don't want to be cliche... I'm the youngest I the band by about 15 years or so... But we get along great. We actually had our first gig tonight (after two reversals with me, the rest of the band has played for a while) and called ourselves "mark likes feedback" but that doesn't really work.

We do a lot of atypical stuff, we are all excellent musicians,  three of them are in the gentle giant grouP with me.

Btw we also need gigs so chicagO people if you k ow bars or clubs looking for stuff like that hit me up

What does Splent mean? Cause that can be a band name.

Umm... Well, if you're doing covers anyway, what about naming yourself after a song from one of the bands you're covering. That's perfectly acceptable.

I'm a bit of a fan of understatement. You're emulating quite a gregarious era - one populated by bands who wouldn't hesitate for a second in telling you who they are and in what way they're the most important and ferocious band in the world.

So I'd be tempted to go for something that sounds like a rock band, but a timid one. Either by being quite polite and deferent - "Sensible Volume," or some such - or by choosing a name that sounds like you were aiming for something truly ferocious, but couldn't think of anything. "Steppenmother" is making me giggle - combination of Steppenwolf, which is German for coyote and a rock band of the right era, and stepmother, which isn't.

Actually, if you don't take Steppenmother, I'm going to save it for myself.

I always wanted to create an old school hard rock band, and name it Rocktopus.

Yeah, cheesy, I know - but it sounds good in my head.  ;D

My favorite that I've ever gotten from a band name generator was "Ziggy Turgidson and the Hong Kong Devils."  Also, I always liked 9-Volt Revolt.

The aforementioned generator, which has some odd choices, but some funny ones.

9-Volt Revolt - That sounds like a great 80s band name.

I'm going to pitch "Covalent" because its a science word, but I think you could extend its meaning to music in a different way.

Eric Banzai and the Nagasaki Oddities

Buckaroo Banzai may sue you though.

That sounds more like a name for a Barber Shop Quartet. Or a 1940's big band group.
