Welcome everyone to the most futile attempt at disecting and ranking all of the musical goodness that graced our ears in the decade many have dubbed the noughties. I hate that term, so we'll call it the 2000s. So much good music was released over this turbulant 10 year period, and some would say determining "the best" of these would be an impossible task. To these people, you are probably correct; but lets give it a shot anyway...

The way I see this happening is to split it up into two phases, a nomination phase and then a survivor-type phase. First, lets whittle down a list of potentially thousands of releases to just 10 (we are talking a real excercise in efficiency here) to then be progressively named and shamed until we have a winner. Everyone gets ten unique nominations, with the ten highest scoring albums on this basis making it into the elimination phase, which will then run like a regular survivor. These don't have to be in any kind of order, just a list of ten albums you think were the best.

To make my life a bit more easier, can you please provide nominations in the following format:

Artist Name - Album Name - Year

If you can't think of ten off the top of your head, feel free to come back at a later stage and edit your initial post - please don't post two seperate sets of nominations (again, in a vain attempt to make my life a bit easier). At this stage I'll probably keep this phase open for a couple of weeks to give enough people enough time to build their lists.

Heh, a lot of balls for putting St. Anger on that list. Unlike most, I don't think it's a terrible album, on the contrary, it's a pretty raw and powerful album. It wouldn't necessary be my favourite of '03, but the amount of discussion and contention attributed to it is perhaps evidence of it's influence on overall music culture.
