New VH Album?
« on: July 02, 2011, 03:19:29 PM »
My boss is an avid VH fan, and their forums have been abuzz with new album rumors with Roth at the mike for some time now, but today he showed me this...

It's been a loooong while since I was excited about new VH, but if they are serious and not pulling another classic EVH mindfuck, I might actually be interested.  Thoughts??

I was never a big fan of Van Halen, but I enjoyed the Hagar singles infinitely more. The thought of a new album with Roth scares me.

Saw Van Halen in 07. Wasn't too impressed. I like a couple of their albums, but EVH seems to have completely lost it, Wolfgang has completely eaten it, and DLR is DLR.

I can't imagine the new album being too good, but never say never I guess.

I really hope this happens.  There is no other disc that I am, or have been looking forward to more than a DLR lead VH disc.

It's apparently finished, mix, mastering, everything.

No clue what the hold-up is.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
LOOK AT THIS AWESOME SHIT AHHHHHH

Yawn.

Unless EVH somehow found Doc Brown's time machine and goes back to the early 80s, this new VH stuff won't be that same kind of fun, partying rock that they originally did with Roth.  If you listen to the two new songs they did with Roth in the 90s (on the best of), they basically sounded like other 90s VH songs, but with Roth singing instead of Hagar.

Plus, while he is a very average bass player, you cannot underestimate how important Michael Anthony's background vocals were to their sound.

I wish they had gotten Ted Templeman to produce it.

The Sammy era is my favorite era. I saw them back in 2004 with Sammy back when I was 10. It was such a great concert. However, if this new album is indeed true, I will buy it and listen to it and be back in Van Halen mode for awhile. They were the first band that I fell in love with after getting 1984 back for Christmas 1998

This. So much this. I'd argue that Michael Anthony is nearly as integral to the classic VH sound as EVH himself.

If they really went through the old demos for their song ideas like Mark Tremonti says, then this should be a very good album with DLR. I saw them in 07 and they sounded great...without Michael Anthony, who imo is an overrated band member and easily replaceable. He's definitely not integral to their sound.

At any rate, I grew up on the old DLR VH and am excited about this album. He was their best singer by far. And they were more of a hard rock/metal band back then. Here's to hoping they bring back that sound.
