Not long to go until the guys go back on the road and take on Europe, so, let's discuss our hopes for the setlists in Europe.

I remember James saying via his twitter that he would love to bring back Trial of Tears, maybe it's a song thats going to feature. Some of the ADToE songs will also be switched out. I can see This is the Life and Lost Not Forgotten get their "debuts" and because OTBOA was played in the Summer, I can see that being dropped in favour of the song that is the next single.

Opener will probably not be changed, BITS is a solid opener. I have a feeling Breaking All Illusions will be pushed out to become the Encore, if not then I really would love Learning to Live to come back again. Lost Not Forgotten in place of Outcry maybe?

Will the instrumental be changed? Ytsejam was also played in the Summer and I can see it being switched out, the optimist in me says for Hell's Kitchen but the realist says TDOE. Or could we see Erotomania, along with Voices and The Silent Man to form the Mind Beside Itself Suite, in place of Through My Words and Fatal Tragedy?

Discussion/Predictions?

I think the ADTOE songs will stay the same, but everything else will be switched, except for Wait for sleep, The Silent man and Pull me under, since those are the only ones we didn't get to see last year.

I expect to see:

Lost Not Forgotten
This Is The Life
Octavarium
Trial of Tears

Anything else is up in the air at this time. The band hasn't said anything publicly about what they would like to play as of recently.

If they indeed decide to drop from the setlist those songs that have already been played in the last European leg, then we will not likely have:

These Walls
Ytse Jam
Forsaken
Caught In A Web
Endless Sacrifice
Through My Words / Fatal Tragedy
On The Backs Of Angels
Under A Glass Moon

Instead, some other songs may be brought back to life:

Vacant (stronger intro to FFH than WTS, in my opinion)
I Walk Beside You (short song to represent Octavarium. Panic Attack has been played almost to his exaustion in the last couple of tours, and the other song are not exactly likely to be played soon for whatever reason)
About To Crash/About To Crash reprise (may be a good compromise to throw something lively off SDOIT without employing a massive amount of time)
The Dance Of Eternity (there needs to be an instrumental, and though it's not my favourite pick, it seems to be the most natural choice)
6:00 (a nice short awake song that has not been played in the last ten years. Logical choice)
Metropolis (may once again be the encore)
Trial Of Tears or Take The Time (as the alternative encore song)

So, that being said (and ignoring something of that), one possible setlist may be:

Bridges In The Sky
I Walk Beside You
Bouild Me Up, Break Me Down
Lost Not Forgotten
6:00
This Is The Life
About To Crash Reprise
The Dance Of Eternity
Drum Solo
Vacant
Far From Heaven / Beneath The Surface
Outcry
Trial Of Tears
Take The Time / Metropolis
---
Breaking All Illusions
:slayer: Somewhere, over the wasteland..... bootlegs fly :slayer:

That looks like a pretty realistic setlist to me, and I'd certainly be happy to see it in London.

I really hope 8V does make a comeback though.

I can definitely see TDOE swapped out for Ytse Jam. I think that's a good call.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

We were all thinking the same before the tour started in July. TDOE was considered an easy call back then as well, and it was left off.

As for myself, I would not mind them throwing Ytse Jam back in the cellar, I've never been extremely fond of it. TDOE would be better, Hell's Kitchen best, but it's by far less likely.

I'd take Ytse Jam over Hell's Kitchen every day! :D

Ytse Jam was a huge and welcomed surprise! If Ytse Jam is left off, do you think they'd revisit any other WDADU tracks? A Fortune In Lies, maybe?

A Fortune In Lies or Afterlife are the most obvious choices: Light Fuse will never be played again, most likely, (doesn't fit James's voice), and Status Seeker may be a weak choice (most people like the aforementioned more then SS, so, why not choosing them in the first place?). The Killing Hand would be the most spectacular comeback, while The Ones Who Bla Bla would not suit a dense and fast paced setlist, in my opinion.
OAMOT, finally, could be the best compromise, though not the best choice off WDADU.

My wish: The Killing Hand
Most likely: A Fortune In Lies / nothing

I hope they don't automatically rule out some songs because they played them in Europe over the summer - because obviously there are some places they'll be visiting this time around that they didn't go to last summer. I'm mainly referring to Metropolis/Learning to Live, I wouldn't care if the rest of the set was poor as long as I got either of those! But I'm not gonna get my hopes up, because I never seem to get a great setlist of songs (from a personal favourites point of view) when I go and see bands live  :lol :'(

I hope they don't drop OTBOA either, it's the single, it was our first taste of the new album, the opening track and it's awesome! Really hoping for Breaking All Illusions as well, such an obvious choice for the sets, I was surprised they didn't play it every leg of the last tour.

I'm not sure about Octavarium.. I mean, if the story about DT not being allowed to play MP penned songs, well Octavarium has two sections written by him.
But I'd definitely love to see About To Crash (reprise), Lifting Shadows Off a Dream, The Killing Hand, 6:00, The Answer Lies Within or other songs they haven't played for a while, and songs from the new album they haven't played yet.
One possible setlist:

Intro
Bridges In The Sky
Build Me Up Break Me Down
The Anser Lies Within
Lost Not Forgotten
Drum solo, leading to
--> 6:00
This Is The Life
The Killing Hand
The Dance of Eternity
Forsaken
Outcry
Take The Time
On The Backs of Angels
About To Crash (Reprise) - Losing Time/Grand Finale
---
Breaking All Illusions

Around 2 hours :)

Edit: Well, I realized that I didn't include Lifting Shadows off A Dream.. but I guess they could switch back and forth between different setlists like they did in the US.

This is a cool setlist, but missing the acoustic part. What about Far From Heaven and Beneath The Surface? I'm not leaving my seat without seeing one of them!  :lol

If I could be so lucky as to see LNF and TITL I almost don't care what else they choose to play (I would be happy with everything).

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go in blind or if I should see what the first 3 set list are (I'm going to the fourth European show)... decisions decisions!

Hm. What I'd like to see:

Bridges In The Sky
Pull Me Under
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
The Dark Eternal Night (with JP's original vocal melodies for the verses. I think I read about them, at any rate.)
A Fortune In Lies
Outcry
The Silent Man / Wait For Sleep
Beneath The Surface / Far From Heaven
Lost Not Forgotten
6:00 / About To Crash
The Spirit Carries On
Breaking All Illusions
====
Trial Of Tears

A setlist I came up with (should be approx. 2 hours):

Bridges
Presence of Enemies 1
6:00
BMUBMD
Stream of Consciousness
Answer Lies Within (acoustic)
Take Away My Pain (acoustic)
Outcry
Beyond This Life
Misunderstood
Wither
Breaking All Illusions

encore:
Take the Time

It's not my dream setlist or my prediction, (unfortunately I'm not going to see any shows on this tour :sadpanda:) just one that I thought would be a balanced selection of songs with some rarely played tunes.

I bet that either SOC or Vacant will be played off Train of Thought, I remember Jordan said in some interview that he's tired of the over-heavy stuff and those two are the most melodic songs on TOT (along with ES but it was played already).

Keep in mind the setlist Europe got last year. We already had the drum solo, OTBOA and Learning to Live.

'Dream' Setlist (as good as it can get):

Intro
Bridges in the Sky
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
I Walk Beside You
6:00
Afterlife
Surrounded
Beneath the Surface
Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions
Stream of Consciousness
Take The Time
Trial of Tears
-------------
Pull Me Under
Metropolis Pt. 1

only this is unrealistic.

Let me try this...

Intro
Bridges in the sky
I walk beside you
Build me up, break me down
Blind faith
Wither
Outcry
The Silent man / Wait for sleep
Beneath the surface / Far from heaven
On the backs of angels
Trial of tears
Home
Breaking all illusions
- - - - -
Pull me under

Still roughly two hours. I don't see On the backs of angels being excluded, it's their hit single from the latest album after all.

I'm hoping they won't play anything from BC&SL, SC, 8V and ToT. There's really nothing on those I'd like to hear. I want to hear quality Dream Theater songs, not the Dream Theater where they are trying to sound evil and lost their dynamics and melody.

All I wanted from this tour was no drum solo, especially since we were introduced - the original point of having one - to Mangini last Summer.

All i know is that MM posted this on FB

Mike Mangini Media & Info
Europe here we come ! And I have my warm clothes :) That menacing virus I got in November affected me until very recently, so I'm being extra careful this time. All is great now and these new sets are going to rock given the addition of some heavy tunes. I'm really looking forward to this tour! See you soon if you're at any shows!

So there will be some more heavy tunes i guess... we will see in a few days from now... cant wait to see them live on the 1st of feb.

I understand.

But it begs the question how many years of drum solos does it need before he's sufficiently introduced? ;D

Firstly hey everyone long time lurker first time poster here.

Just wanted to start by saying I've been watching videos on the 'Tube and I really hope they keep Endless Sacrifice and CIAW in the setlist. I'm attending the show at Wembley and as a first timer I cannot wait!

Also I agree with John94, for the people who didn't attend earlier last year they still need MM's solo in!

Lastly I couldn't help but notice this:

2012-01-29 - Arena Hall - Poznań, POL
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Release Date 2002 01 29.

It would be a crime against humanity for any songs from SDOIT to not be played in Poland!! And I'm hoping it will be TGP and that they keep it in the setlist too!
