I can't beleive we have gone so long without one  :sadpanda:

Here is the place to discuss this kick-ass band!  :metal I would highly recommend them to anyone who likes the power/prog style (similar to Symphony X)

For those that don't know
Quote
Circus Maximus is a Norwegian progressive metal quintet from Oslo.

Current members

    * Michael Eriksen – vocals
    * Lasse Finbråten – keyboards
    * Mats Haugen – guitars
    * Truls Haugen – drums
    * Glen Cato Møllen – bass guitar

So far they have two albums out; The 1st Chapter (2005) and Isolate (2007), I am a big fan of both, but the 1st Chapter is my favourite.
Unsurprisingly, the title track off that album is my favourite song of theirs  :biggrin:

A very promising band! So early in their career, I can see so many more quality albums coming out from these dudes.

As far as I know, they are in the studio recording for their 3rd album, and I can't wait  :hat

on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

They've certainly taken their sweet ass time with their follow up to Isolate.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

How so? Isolate was released less then 2 years ago. I think that is a fair amount of time for them to be putting out a new album this year  ;)
I just hope the new album has more orchestration/epic stuff in it. Moar long songs please  :biggrin:

Epic great Norwegian band! They have released two awesome albums and I cant wait for the third!^^ I agree that they have released two very "quality albums". I love Mikaels voice and the rest of the guys are really skilled! The first record is really good even though the follow up is even better!

My favourite songs are (though they are all great)

Mouth of Madness
Alive
Glory of the Empire
A Darkened Mind
(and)
Abyss

They play a highly listenable and catchy brand of prog-metal.   I'm definitely down for their 3rd album.

That's a great way to describe it. It isn't anything groundbreaking, it is just good music that is fun to listen to. Even if their first album was very Images and Words-sounding, they have made two pretty solid debut albums. They have taken some heat for not having a unique sound, but what band really has their sound fully developed so early in their career?

I found out about their first album not too long after it was released, when some online prog radio station played the title track.

Fantastic band, and I await their third album.

One of my favorite prog bands. They're the perfect blend of everything I like. The DT influences don't bother me, and not for one second do I feel I'm listening to a Dream Theater clone band.

Absolute gem of a band. Both albums are a class act.

Anyone else dig Glory of the Empire as much as me?  :metal

That band is great. Started really strong. Normally, a band needs a few album to sound really good. They just started like if they were doing that since like 10 years.

One of my favorite bands.  The 1st Chapter is one of the best songs ever made, in my opinion.  The guitarist extremely clean live, from what I've seen, and the vocalist is pretty clean, too.  They certainly seem to have Dream Theater influences, while at the same time, not sounding like Dream Theater (with the exception of Bioshere, which I can't help but think is a tribute to The Dance of Eternity).

Glad to find a thread here, just discovered that band.
A friend gave me Isolate and as soon as my eyes fell on an instrumental track I jumped to it, I liked it! it's a good way I've been following for me to get into a band before the singer ruins it for me.
Now I'm gonna hear the rest of the CD, very excited about the sound, DT part II indeed yeshua.

Saying they are DT part 2 is ridonkulous. If you want a great example of a real clone band, go listen to Savage Circus' Dreamland Manor and then Blind Guardian's Imaginations From The Other Side. Circus Maximus definitely have Dream Theater influences, but they are not a DT clone.

I'm not saying they aren't. I have their first album, but still if you don't think they are a BG clone then you're in denial. Thomen could have made something more original.

That is certainly a good way to put it.

The thing that I find wonderfully unique and refreshing about Circus Maximus is the way they blend 80's-style hair metal choruses and melodies into the prog-metal.
