Isn't a clown just a man in a costume?

They don't all have to have wigs, and big feet. Like, he might be dressed almost normal, but I can still see him having his nose a bit painted. Like a more subtle clown. They do it quite a bit in the circus, if it's gonna be someone rolling a unicycle on a tight rope.
