OtBoA favourite part
« on: June 29, 2011, 09:51:31 AM »
What's your current favourite part of On the Back of Angels?

I have to say that mine is the part around the 3:00 mark and the part after the guitar solo.  :metal

As of third listen, I have to go with the outro.  But also several other parts.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

Piano solo, by miles! And I imagine I'll be the first of many to say that.

Can't remember the timestamp but the end of the intro with the operatic keyboard.

The moment that choir launches in its intro. My jaw literally dropped and my eyes widened and I laughed like Mangini does.

Among other things, JR's Japanese-style run. Let me give the song another listen.

(I just needed that excuse.)

Agreed, Jordan absolutely SHINES in this song.  Not to say the rest of the guys didn't do good either though, the whole band seemed to be working well together.

Some of the instrumental parts in the mid of the song sound very much like SFAM.  Just noticed as I was writing this, that the very end few notes sound VERY similiar to Sacrificed Sons ending notes.

The intro. Or the first  minutes or so.

Love the way it's a clean guitar with the MorphWiz, then goes into the lead sound with Mangini entering, then the voices/choir. Reminds of The Great Debate for some reason.

I'm trying to figure out how you guys know that it's MorphWiz... not in a skeptical way, but in a, "How do they know?" sort of thing.

It sounds a lot like one of the presets in MorphWiz. So I am assuming it is MorphWiz.

The prechorus which sounds like WDADU, especially when it reprises after JP's solo. Wow.

The acoustic intro, most definitely. Or JR's piano bit. Or the outro. There are too many great parts in this song!

The acoustic guitar intro, which has some Morphwiz or some iPad app mixed in too. Niiice!

I can't recall any other parts yet, though Ive listened 3 times. I dont want to get sick of the song the day it came out, yknow

Hard for me to pick a favorite right now. Only listened while at work, will need more time to digest before picking.

Yes. Thats MorphWiz! I can tell by the sounds and the slides that it's one of the presets. Not sure which one though.

The verse sections, the parts like "standing on the backs.. of angels!" I wish it was repeated more in the song, it's so damn catchy.

Loving the intro and the part at 6:40. Just a gorgeous piece. Also the "LTE" jam is a nice touch.

The chorus for now. I only listened to it once, though. I didn't think I'd mind the youtube quality (or lack thereof), but I really do. Gonna be an awesome song.
The first time I saw DT in a Columbia House catalog in the early 90s, they were described as Rush meets Metallica. Judging from that track, they are back to that description with me. Very cool song.
