I've listened to it a couple times and mentally tuned out Jordan and bammo the song is better.

I love the vocals.

Listened to it a few times now. Overall I thinks it's a very good song and I like that it has a feel of some of their older, more proggy material. A few thoughts:

1) I like the song structure, everything flows well from section to section without any awkward instrumental solo sections thrown in.
2) The song feels modern in it's production and instrumentation but doesn't feel like anything from SC or BCSL.
3) The drums are great, but I do feel they could of been pushed a little louder in the mix.
4) I like what JR does with keys in the song, but I hate, hate, hate his piano solo...way too many notes. I'm glad that section is short.

I think this is a great step in the right direction for DT and a return to what fans love about them in their songwriting. Looking forward to hearing more from the full album.

I would have to agree with what was said earlier on, that this song sounds like the logical progression from SDOIT, with *some* elements of the more recent material mixed in. Also to reneranucci's observation that it's still more metal than prog, I would venture to say that while that's true, it's metal of a significantly tamer variety than in, say, ANTR or TDEN.

Woke up and listened to it (probably my 6th listen or so).

It is aging very well already. And it seems to get catchier.

Sometimes a song doesn't have to smack you in the face on the first few listens to keep you in. Really seems like a grower.

Yes. Usually the songs which you like instantly are the ones you get tired of quicker. The songs which don't hit you straight away sometimes end up being your favourites.

The way he describes both songs, yes. But that is partly because he describes the structure in such broad, general terms that you could actually fit quite a few songs under that umbrella.

I've been listening to this song for quite a bit since yesterday.

I love it so far, so far i have enjoyed it more than anything on the last 2 albums.

I listened to it a lot in the last 24 hours, and I gotta say, I'm pleased. I wanted a good song, I got a good song. Certainly nothing groundbreaking, but it has absolutely everything a Dream Theater song should have. Everybody is just on fire. Mangini played remarkable, John's solos sound fresh and beautiful, Jordan did an incredible piece of work, especially with the piano section, James nailed it, and Myung had some cool moments.

Some of my favorite sections... Well, the moment the choir kicked in I was blown away, and then there's that guitar riff. I love the bit before the verse starts, the verses are fine, but not as awesome as the chorus. I enjoy that groovy verse that reminded me of Strange Deja Vu ("Back on my feet again..."), and then there's that brutal transition before the last chorus.

Overall... Did anyone really think the song won't be good? Bring on the fuckin' album!

I like to think Skrillex is one of the most creative guys in popular electronic music right now, but that Korn song is just terrible. Respect lost.

So I've listened to the tune a few times now but I'm quite late to the reaction party, so pardon me if I echo any sentiments already expressed here. Very solid tune, nothing extremely amazing but definitely far better than Constant Motion or A Rite of Passage as far as lead singles go. If the throwback to their older sound is indicative of how the whole album will sound then I'm definitely very excited! The little bit right after the guitar solo (which I think is great, textbook Petrucci) sounds like it could have fit right in on Images & Words.

To those who say the song is not memorable ... I agree. And that makes me keep going back to listen to it. I enjoy every second of listening to it, so I don't see a problem here.

But that is progressive music. It usually doesn't hook you on first listen, because the elements aren't simplified enough to stick in your memory. Once you start to become familiar with the road map, you start to really appreciate the different elements and that is the way it should be.

And Petrucci's tone... It's the best it has been since SDOIT.
