"Speak To Me" Appreciation Thread
« on: June 25, 2011, 09:44:13 AM »
Time to show this little piece some well-deserved love  :heart

I love the "unplugged" version that was performed live, and JR's piano cover is pretty good as well.
I forgot I even had this account, so what the heck

Fantastic song, but that unplugged version wasn't really unplugged.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I don't understand the need for quotation marks.  But hey, that's cool.

Love the song. But I can imagine what shitstorm this song would have caused had it been on one of the modern DT albums.  :D

I do. It is just sort of unplugged. Quotation marks help give that connotation...at least they do to me, so they were used effectively IMO.

Although you are the English man...

Love the song!

Its not because the songs are "mainstream", its because the songs aren't that great. Speak To Me happens to be a great song.

I always hope this song will make its way to any of their setlists. It's a shame it didn't make it to FII.

I ABSOLUTELY love this song the "tell me what your thinking" part has been in my head for the last few weeks. My wife came home one night while I was watching it on FYIAL and she even liked it, and that's saying something.

Simple, yet it says so much. Great song! I love Derek's airy synth during the "tell me what you're thinking" part!

"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. It's a really good song, and one of their best ballads. I'd love it if they included it in some of their concert set lists or did something similar for their upcoming work.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

No, it's not any unplugged.  A few of the songs at that show were "unplugged", but that wasn't one of them.

*sigh* I think it pertains to more of the feel of the whole show, and STM was in the middle of all that, in the atmosphere...not unplugged, but there with the movement of some of the other unplugged songs. It at least has that vibe to me of being "somewhat unplugged." It's more of the atmosphere of it being unplugged, rather than the strict definition.

At least that is what I read into the OP...I "got" what he was saying.

Surely I am not the only person who can relate to this song?

Love it, love going deep into the song and lyrics and relating it back to life.

One of the most memorable songs I know. I was sold after the first 10 seconds. And props for JR's piano version from Notes on a Dream!

This song, along with Raise The Knife are both better than most of the stuff on FII, and it's a damn shame they weren't included on the album.
