So I was watching Return of the Jedi with my son last night, and we came to a part that I've wondered about pretty much my entire life. So after Luke kills the Rancor, there's this big guy with a funny headdress and no shirt who seems all distraught, pushes people out of his way so he can run into the Rancor's pit and just seems really broken up over the fact that the Rancor is dead. We see him crying and another of Jabba's minions consoling him.
I've always wondered- what's the story with this guy? What was his relationship to the Rancor that has him crying over his loss? Were they good friends, maybe relatives, pehaps something more (not that there's anything wrong with that)? Nobody else in the palace seemed to react that way, sure there was alot of outrage but this guy was downright sad. It's weird too because we get a few shots of this, so it seems odd that they would spend that much time showing us this guy's emotional reaction to the Rancor's death with no explanation as to who he is or why he's so bummed. My son, who's 2, even asked me "Why that man sad?" and I didn't have an answer for him. Anybody else ever wondered about this little scene?
