Come visit me on the Aussie leg :D! Haha but nah seriously I want to put aside the aussie/NZ rivalry for a bit and say that NZ is the most fucking beautiful place ever, definitely spend at least a few weeks there.

this. But while NZ is beautiful  (especially south island...fiorland  :heart) australia is an amazing country and I reckon you will enjoy it a lot.

Each evening watch Netflix episodes of "An Idiot Abroad" for perspective, and share the differences with your experience, and Pilkingtons.  :lol

That is ridiculously awesome.

I am super jealous, but it's also wonderful to see someone about to live their dream. I hope the trip is as awesome as you hope (and more)!  :metal :metal

Just spend all your time in "Southern Europe" in Andalusia. You won't regret it. There's at least two weeks of awesome things to see there.

Very exciting, I've been wanting to do something like this for years (and I've been saving too lol)

If you don't mind me asking, where are you going to living during the 6 months when you're not with family and friends? Are you going to be staying in Hostels, hotel rooms?

I plan to mostly stay at hostels, with the occasional hotel thrown in (for example when I arrive in Spain, to get my bearings).

I will meet up with friends in my home town, later potentially a Greek friend of mine in Athens, and then another friend in Istanbul. After that I will be on my own (unless another friend decides to join me in China). So, for the most part it's just me. Which I'm actually looking forward to, because I like meeting new people, and the best way to do so is to go alone.

So what's the final itinerary looking like?  I'd guess it's a bit more refined by now.

I was actually reading another forum today (there are actually non-DTF forums out there--who knew) with a "ask me about living in Thailand" thread.  Sounds like a fun place to spend some time.

Actually, the list in the OP is the same, since the flights were committed-to when I wrote the OP. The only part of the trip that is almost completely fleshed out is the European one. I will fly into Madrid, then go to Barcelona, Nice (France), Rome, and then home to Germany.

Crossing the Alps via train or flying?  The train ride form Turano into Switzerland was one of the highlights of my trip.  It also provides some quality time in the Lake Como region, which is fairly bad ass.

I loved Switzerland, it was so green and beautiful (keep in mind I live in the desert). Nice was nice (ha), except for the fact of some creepy old dude asking me if I wanted to go to a party. I was 11 at the time.

Rumby, where are you going to be in China? If you find yourself in Hong Kong for some reason, I'd be more than happy to show you around (barring you don't have friends here or something).

Ooh, that would be wicked cool! In my current time schedule I will fly into Hong Kong end of September. If you are in town around that time, that would be awesome.

Barring the slight chance that I'm dropped or drop out of my Master's program, I'll definitely be there then!

PM me about it closer to when the time comes!
