the Second Person thread (Trip-hop/Electronic/good)
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:49:54 PM »
I've started to get into this music a lot.  I think it's described as post-trip hop quite often, and while I have no idea what the fuck that means I can't get enough of it.  For anyone who actually feels like giving it a try, I'd recommend this right here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILo1v6Y7IB4

Basically, if one was to ask me how to describe Second Person, I'd say that they are really nice, subtle, catchy electronics with a unique female voice over top.

The band has a really cool visual and conceptual aspect to them as well.  "The Elements" was intended for release with a short film as an accompaniment, and it really goes well with the music, following a young girl and her journey through a world of dragons and magic and shit like that.  The video that I posted has the first fragment of the short film to supplement the song.  The other parts are supposed to be released someday but they haven't been yet, unfortunately.

I'll just leave this here

Judging by your post, it sounds like something I would like.
So it's going down on my list, and I'll try to download it whenever I can.  :tup

Really cool song that you linked to, it sort of reminds me of J-Pop in some ways, and the singer's voice is really like that kind of music. Still, it was cool enough that I'll add the album it's on to my list.

(also, was it just me, or did her phrasing really remind you of Tori Amos at points?)

Ah, I think it's quite possible she's influenced by Tori here and there, as she sounds kind of like Tori with a lighter character mixed with some other singer I can't recall right now.

Epic thread bump!

Just discovered this band, they're amazing. Unfortunately, they broke up some time ago. :(

Seems like it's hard to get ahold of physical albums, though.

Same here. Really digging the Beth Gibbons-ish vocals.

Got Come To Dust today. Had to download, apparently it was never pressed in a physical format. Shame, really.

Anyway, the album is fantastic. It's only about 9 bucks on Amazon, so go get it. Now.

Checked a few tracks on Youtube, not really my thing. It's incredibly rare that I find electronic stuff I like though, so it's no surprise.

Out of curiosity, which tracks did you hear? Not that it will likely matter, all their stuff is in a similar vein, but I'm curious nonetheless.

Hmm, yeah, the band's probably not for you, then. I appreciate you trying 'em out, though. :)

I'll give anything a chance. You never know when you'll accidentally stumble upon something great where you wouldn't normally look.

Very true. I found myself really enjoying Lana Del Rey recently. You never know what you'll like. :lol
