Me and one of my friends are planning on going to either the Nov 10 (Baltimore) or Nov 12 (Philadelphia) show and was wondering if anyone would like to carpool? I am in Ohio, and gas will be $70-80 total for me and my friend :sadpanda: and I would like to bring down that cost by splitting it between more people and maybe bring some fan(s) to the show if they can't justify the gas cost.
(Can also arrange pick up on the way to the concert and split gas from there.)

WARNING SETLIST SPOILERS

Raider II is awesome, daring, heavy as hell, epic, beautiful. I definately see it as his signature composition right now. In any case it's the visit card of this album, no doubt. It encompasses everything about 'Grace for Drowning', except for the poppy tracks.

This album has a few pop tracks, but it's definately not the main thing. It's SW gone prog-jazz, and the results are amazing. The weird thing is, I'm not a big fan of KC'esque jazzy stuff, but combined with SW's pop/songwriting skills it's amazing.

'Like Dust I have Cleared from my Eye'. PERFECT ending track for the album. I love it even more than Deform and Postcard. Then again Postcard hit me really hard at the live concert.. I just don't dig the sterile production of the drums on that one. That's the only place on the record that sounds like Welcome to my DNA.. that record might be the worst sounding stuff SW has put out.

For the folks in the USA seeing SW live: You can't prepare yourself for this concert. I usually think of concerts as 'good', 'bad' or 'amazing', but this was just a whole new level of magic being created. I almost want to go as far as saying it beat the shit out of any Porcupine Tree gig I've seen, but I won't. Because it doesn't. It's different, and it's every bit as amazing.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I really like his vocals, but he's not really a good guitar player at all.

I've heard complaints about him "butchering" some guitar-solo's live and such, but apart from Dark Matter on Anesthetize, it's nothing that bothers me.
His vocals are ace as well, My Ashes on Anesthetize is awesome.

Yeah his vocals are really good, I think, but sometimes he's spotty, mostly on the ballady sing-along songs.  Beginning of Lazarus on Arriving Somewhere... he is WAY off.  I can think of other moments where I felt that way about his voice but can't remember exactly where.

I think the problem with the live-version of Dark Matter is that it's perfect the way it is on album, and they try to play it differently live (cudos for trying at least), except it doesn't sound nearly as good.

I didn't know Steven was remastering Thick as a Brick. Thought he was just doing Aqualung.

Just out of interest, where would you guys rank Steven's solo albums amongst the PT discography?

Probably a tad above the middle mark.

Both the albums are phenomenal, but  PT is PT. Bit too early to be sure, but they could go higher.

Also that really sucks to hear Reap.

Yep.  Both SW albums are pretty much perfect and I can't find anything to complain about.  There's only a handful of PT albums I can say that about, though.

Insurgentes is up with the best them.

Grace for.drowning is also up worth the best them.

Both his solo albums are great, but they lack the input of Harrison, Edwin and Barbieri which makes PT so special. I was remined of this special chemistry when watching the Anaesthetize DVD again last night. What an amazing production.  :hefdaddy

I don't know where I would rank them but they would do pretty well, I think. Tony told me tonight that he thinks GFD is the best SW-related album since Deadwing, which I may actually agree with (as much as I still love the stuff in between).

I'd rank them above all PT-albums, not sure yet if Insurgentes or GFD would be first, the latter has to sink in a bit.

SW has quite a few other albums I would rank equal/higher then my favorite PT-albums as well, Blackfield (the first album), Schoolyard Ghosts by No-Man and Ghosts on Magnetic Tape by Bass Communion comes to mind.

Nowadays, I very rarely mention Porcupine Tree among my favorite bands, because I love SW's other projects so much as well, so I mostly say "Steven Wilson - all projects included".  :lol
