As I've said in the Chroma Key thread, a Steven Wilson + Kevin Moore collaboration could be amazing!

Didn't Steven sing on one of the songs off of the first OSI album? But I agree a full length Steven Wilson/Kevin Moore collaboration would be something spectacular!

I think it would be awesome if Steven produced the next Katatonia album. Jonas Renkse mentioned in a recent interview that they would love to have Steven produce their next album if their schedule synchronize. But a Steven Wilson 5.1 mix of Night Is The New Day would be just as great!  :metal

That could lead to be the most depressing / emotional album ever created.

If you want to add a twist, add Roger Waters to the mix.

-dreams-
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I am tired of people constantly bitching about wanting PT back...This is where his heart is, clearly.

Slightly modified it, but I agree with this part.

I'm glad I became a fan of SW's other projects before PT called a hiatus. It really softened the blow of that announcement. People saying "Oh, PT will be back after SW4". PT will be back when everyone in the band wants it back. This is what I like about Steven Wilson. He treads his own musical path, not just going along with what the fans want.

Anyway, changing the subject, today is the 1st anniversary of the release of The Raven That Refused to Sing!

A year on, what's your favourite song now, compared to what it was on your first few hearings?

My favorite song now is the same as my favorite when I first heard the album which is Drive Home. Dat solo.

Been listening this week to a lot of Steven Wilson.  I don't remember loving Grace for Drowning when it first came out, but I'm really feeling connected with it now.  Weird how that happens.  Good stuff.

This sounds like a strange request, but could someone who was there tell me the top 5 (or more if possible) of the last Porcupine Tree Survivor that was held? I've tried the search box at the top, to no avail, and I'd like to know the results, out of curiosity, and for an idea I have.

Thanks!

I cannot remember, but I have to think that Anesthetize, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and Trains were three of them.

I also remember A Smart kid being surprisingly high, maybe at #4. Something tells me The Start of something beautiful was in there as well...

I think Arriving Somewhere and Anesthetize were the top 2, with the former winning.

I didn't participate in the survivor, but I saw the results a year ago and I remember those two being the top 2.

I didn't participate either, but yeah. :P
Definitely wouldn't be my top two picks, but still great songs.

Seriously - Trains didn't win? Everyone always goes mad for Trains! I agree, Arriving Somewhere's better, but I'm just surprised based on what I thought I knew about this message board. Clearly, I'm out of touch!

Trains only gets better and better as time goes on for me.

I'm a bit surprised that Arriving won.   When Deadwing first came out, that was by FAR and away my favorite...but now I feel like it hasn't really had the staying power in my heart the way some of the others do.   Start of Something Beautiful is probably my favorite...though Open Car has had quite a bit of staying power as well.

Anesthetize is a weird one.   I love all the parts, but it never did strike me as a cohesive SONG the way Arriving does.   Anesthetize is more like a suite of three unrelated (musically anyway...I'm aware that lyrically it is very much one piece) smaller pieces.

Personally, my all time favorite PT song is Heartattack in a Layby.   Absolutely cannot get enough of it.

Than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled." - Neil Peart

I played IA for my roommate, and that's the only song he really liked. Can't figure it out.

Not that it's a bad song, but I always ranked under pretty all the others.

I think it's because it's easy to digest and has all that groove and a strong personality.

Some rather delightful news regarding a Blackfield show in the US...

Quote
On the 1st of May, Blackfield will perform at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Tickets will go on sale next week.
Please note that this will be the band's only date in the USA. This show will be Steven Wilson's final performance with Blackfield.

Just listened to the Coma Divine Live cd and I have to say that 'Not beautiful anymore' is one of the best live songs I have ever heard.  :metal  I need to bite the bullet and get this cd.  The cost is 20.00 US on Itunes.
