BTW, in an interview with Israeli online metal magazine, Metalist (yeah, original name indeed), the interviewer asked Petrucci (it's written in hebrew and I just translate, so maybe there are a few wrong words choise, but I think I kept the meaning the same):
"The name of the album immediately connects to last year's events - A Dramatic Turn of Events. is it possible to guess that the musical direction evolves in a dramatic way aswell, now that Mike Portnoy is not part of the band?"
And Petrucci answered:
"It's clear to me that it's possible to directly connect the name of the album to everything that has happened with the band in the last year, but it's not the case. the name is connected to the lyrical content of the album, and to the fact that most of the lyrics are about big changes that has happened in history and now in the world (socially, politically, spiritually). The songs are actually about that, and the title of the album represents that fact, but at the same time, I have to confess that it's clear that it's possible to translate it the way in which you talk about - although it wasn't the meaning."

Dream Theater - A Glorious Turn of Dramatic Burdened Events

Although at first I thought this was a lucky coincidence at best, on second thought, there might be something to this.

Every time someone left, Dream Theater had something to prove--they needed to prove that they were still relevant and capable of creating excellent music, even without some influential and charismatic personalities in the band.  Nothing different this time...if anything, they have more to prove than ever.  Following the pattern, it does look to be an amazing album.

I think the concept is going to be similar to that of octavarium, BC&SL or 6DOIT (entire content of both discs); not as in 6DOIT (the "song") or SFAM. Either way, this album sounds promising. Bring it!

Correct me if I got anything wrong.

When they made WDADU, they had already been demoing a lot of the material.
When they made IAW, they had also already been demoing a lot of the material.
When they made ACOS, the song had been around for 4 years already, it just got tweaked a bit with DS's additions.
When they made SFAM, they had the groundwork laid out from a 20-minute demo that got expanded into an 80 minute album.

So you see, it seems when someone left the band, they had already had something in mind for the next album.

The difference now is that with MP gone, they've started fresh, and I'm sure they haven't been demoing new material/riffs lately, unless they took ideas from the auditions and ran with them. I guess we'll find out in a few months. If so, the idea of using old ideas/demos/songs on the next album after a member departs will still continue!

Fresh start with not-so-fresh ideas? Seems to work so far...

Maybe I'm being caught up in the hype machine, but I'm willing to have some faith.  It's not like the song titles are "We killed him!," "End of Ghaddafi?," and "There Have Been a Lot of Natural Disasters This Decade."  If you look at song titles like TGD, ITNOG, SS, POW, and AROP, it's sorta obvious they're songs that are meant to be about something.  The titles on ADTOE seem to be more about imagery and emotion.  If nothing else, do you really think JM is going to drop the ball on his lyrical return?

That doesn't really mean anything, but you'd expect them to be done mixing before they start tour rehearsals.

Not necessarily.  They don't have anything to do with each other since the members of DT aren't the ones doing the mixing.  The tour dates are what they are, so the band has to start rehearsing regardless of the status of the album.
