For some reason the titles brought me a really "Satriani" vibe (I really could see "On The Backs of Angels" in a tracklisting besides song titles like Flying in a blue dream or Surfing with the Alien). Also, I think the album title is cool (brings a vibe similar to "A Nightmare to Remember" IMO). Still, everything sounds really interesting  :metal .

I've lived with the idea that the first track was called "On the backs of angles" all day. At first I didn't get it but the idea grew on me and I kinda thought it was really cool name. A minute ago I read it again and it said angels.  :-\

So who else think angles would be cooler?

SO.... Did anybody at the Aniland's fake Album/Tracklist thread actually got at least one title right?

Yep. On the second page, somebody got "Outcry" and "Lost Not Forgotten". Pretty fucking incredible if you ask me.

I just double-checked for the heck of it, and don't see either one?

The Album title: Not digging it.

The song titles: I hate "Build me up, Break me Down" and "This Is the Life" but the rest of the titles sound amazing. I'd go as far as to say these titles are my favorite to date from DT. I'm VERY interested in hearing what "The Shaman's Trance" sounds like, if the song is anything like the feeling of the title, I'd expect it to be very mystical/dreamy/trippy.

I just hope the songs are as good as the names!

Knowing Dream Theater, they will. Knowing their fans, they wont.

If this is true, I love it. The song titles are really unusual compared to what they were called on the more recent releases, but it doesn't matter to me. The album title... Well, it might be indeed a nod to MP's departure, and it sounds a bit cliché'd, but I'm not one who thinks an album is worse because of a rather uninteresting title.
This exactly. It's a little cliche'd, but less so than a lot of DT's song titles and less so than BC&SL. And it doesn't really matter if the material that backs it up is good. As someone else mentioned early in the thread, out of context "Learning to Live" is a cheesy title, but in the context of the music and the lyrics it is perfect.

And most of all I really like the fact that both the album and song titles are a little different for DT.

The song titles just made it a bit more exciting for me, it just seems like it has a completely different vibe than DT's latest albums, so its quite interesting to see where they're heading now.

Is it me or does the first half of the album give you a rather positive, Images & Wordsy vibe to it?

Eh... The title does not change how excited I am for the album, but I think a few of the song titles would work better as an album title to be honest...

"Beneath the Surface"
"Breaking All Illusions"
"Far From Heaven"

Just amazing.  DT should count their lucky stars that some of their fans are at this level of unconditional cult worship.

Oh well. It is what it is. I would have preferred "On the Backs of Angels" as the album title, and the first song being called "A Dramatic Turn of Events".

Anyone else get the email from Roadrunner?

Could the header be a glimpse of the artwork/fonts on the artwork?

Nah I LOVE that one as a song title. I also love Far From Heaven and This is the Life. The rest are cool though, although Shaman's Trance is the obvious odd-one out, but I can hope for a TCOT can't I?

it looks like the 8V cover...wel a part of it..

the font they used does it make seem like a book though.
the book that's called DT. where in this chapter we will discuss the departure of MP and how we survived and moved on.

I think "Breaking All Illusions" would have been a cooler title for the album, and have ADToE as the song title. But oh well, still very excited  :metal

Sorry if someone's already brought this up, I only read half of the 13 pages.

But Mangini said that it was track 6 with the ridiculous drumming, no? That'd be Outcry.

Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

Though there's always the possibility that the track order changed between then and now.

Anyone posting information about album leaks, including offering leaked material or asking for leaked material, will be banned.  No exceptions.  Depending on the seriousness of the offense, you will either be banned permanently, or at the very least, until release date.

James, you've been around at least two album release cycles.  There is no excuse for you not knowing that what you posted is against the rules.  Last warning on that subject.

For SC, I wasn't around, or at least wasn't registered on the new site at the time. For BC&SL, I didn't have internet for a while surrounding it, so I was unsure.

I promise no more talk about it, though. :)

Welcome.

In other news, https://dreamtheater.net/news_dreamtheater.php#pressrelease.  dreamtheater.net finally has something new, but as far as I can tell, it's exactly the same article as was posted from a spanish website in the 'a rumor' thread yesterday.

Correction.  It was posted in the a rumor thread, but it was posted from Roadrunner, not from a spanish website.

Outcry is either going to be an Elements of Persuasion  style metal single, or a longer epic type track...
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

You will generally NOT find information on .net as quickly as you will find it elsewhere.  That's not a knock on the band, but their webmaster simply doesn't get the info out as promptly as you would expect.  That's why I appreciate fans posting stuff here as soon as it is released so that we can make sure the information is out to as many people as quickly as possible.
