Well I'm doing Budokan tonight and Octavarium tomorrow. :P

How are you guys so far in?  I'm doing them one-a-day and I'm only at FII.

I started Friday I think. I listen to multiple albums per day. For example, I had no school yesterday so I did Once in a Livetime, Metropolis, Scenes from New York, and Six Degrees. Today I only did ToT and Budokan. Tomorrow is Octavrarium and Score. Thursday will be Systematic Chaos and the DVD that comes with it. Friday will be Black Clouds. And perfect timing because Saturday is A Dramatic Turn of Events.  :metal :metal :metal

ahhh! ha

What is that white blob behind JR?

I am quite sure our Blob could clarify your doubt  :rollin

It is actually the back of Jordan's chair. Because of the lighting, the glare is making that side white, and his head is blocking the light from the other half of the back, so it looks really weird.

Nice. I did something like that back before the release of BC&SL, but it included every officially released CD and DVD, including YtseJam Records stuff too, all in chronological order.

I figured it would be way too much for me to try and fit all that in with my hectic work schedule this year, but maybe for DT12 I will do the massive marathon again. Here's what I did last time, for the curious (plus a few new things that have come out since BC&SL and things I've added):

     - 1985-1989
-The Majesty Demos
-When Dream And Day Unite
-When Dream And Day Reunite (DVD and CD) [Overnight Listening]

     - 1991-1993
-Images And Words Demos
-Images And Words (plus "To Live Forever '91" and "Don't Look Past Me")
-Live At The Marquee
-New York City, NY 3/4/93 [Overnight Listening]
-Images And Words: Live In Tokyo DVD
-Taste The Memories
-Images And Words Live: 15th Anniversary

     - 1994-1995
-Awake Demos
-Awake (plus "To Live Forever '94" and "Eve")
-A Change Of Seasons EP
-Tokyo, Japan 10/28/95 [Overnight Listening]

     - 1996-1998
-Old Bridge, NJ 12/14/96 [Overnight Listening]
-Falling Into Infinity Demos
-The Making of Falling Into Infinity
-Falling Into Infinity (w/Cleaning Out The Closet)
-Los Angeles, CA 5/18/98
-Once In A LIVEtime
-Once In A LIVEtime Outtakes
-Five Years In A LIVEtime DVD

     - 1999-2001
-The Making of Scenes From A Memory: Behind The Scenes & Alternate Mixes
-Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory
-Live Scenes From New York (DVD and 3CD) [Overnight Listening]
-Through Her Eyes (Single)
-Scenes From A World Tour

     - 2002
-Ten Degrees of Turbulent Drumming
-Four Degrees of Radio Edits
-Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence [Overnight Listening]
-Bucharest, Romania 7/4/02 DVD
-Graspop Festival 2002
-Uncovered: 2003-2005 (Live Covers)

     - 2003-2004
-Drums of Thought
-Train of Thought Instrumental Demos
-The Making of Train of Thought (videos)
-Train of Thought
-Live At Budokan (2DVD and 3CD) [Overnight Listening]
-A Sort of Homecoming

     - 2005-2006
-Drumavarium
-Octavarium
-Santiago, Chile 12/6/05
-Romavarium
-A Walk Beside The Band (DVD)
-Score (2DVD and 3CD) [Overnight Listening]

     - 2007-2008
-SysDRUMatic Chaos
-Chaos In Progress (The Making of Systematic Chaos DVD)
-Systematic Chaos
-Chaos In Motion (2DVD and 3CD) [Overnight Listening]
-Progressive Nation '08

     - 2009-2010
-Black Clouds & Silver Drumming
-Black Clouds & Silver Linings (Album, Covers and Instrumental Mixes)
-"Raw Dog" from the God Of War EP

Every chunk of material was done in about a day, if I had time. Otherwise, it was spread over two days, especially the IAW-era, FII-era, and TOT-era stuff. Where ti says [Overnight Listening], I played those albums on my iPod over night as I slept, and would finish it in the morning depending on where in the tracklist it was when I woke up (I always play music when I sleep).

I'll definitely have to do this again to gear-up for DT12, but I hope it's release date is in the winter or summer when I'm not so busy with work and  I actually have the time to watch/listen to all of this!!!

Yeah, I totally went ALL OUT last time, but the list above will be my NEW marathon for whenever DT12 comes out (2013? I hope so...), and then whatever else comes out after ADTOE! I guess I could add the following to the end:

     - 2011-2012
-"The Spirit Carries On" DVD Documentary
-A Dramatic Turn Of Events
-(The eventual live CD/DVD release we all know will come out because the first tour with MM is kind of a big deal)

That is waaaaaay overkill. I would be so sick of DT very early on into that. I also don't see why the drum DVDs are necessary for the marathon either.

Yeah, halfway through the marathon before BC&SL's release, I realized how much it was but I just kept on going.

Also, as a drummer and a fan of MP in general, the drumming DVDs are very entertaining and educational for me. Also, MP's commentary on the tracks gives great insight on the songs themselves, and not just his drumming, but many other aspects of the songs and the albums!

I don't know what you're talking about. I don't have any drum DVD's. And I'm not sick of DT. I only listen when I feel like it. I also listen to a lot of other stuff by other bands in between. It's not like I'm pounding down DT 24/7.

My local CD retailer usually ships albums early (they shipped BC&SL 3 or 4 days before the release), so I'll be definitely checking those out.

Currently at Prog Archives the album sits at #5 in the discography after about 115 rankings.

A site which is generally pretty accurate in reflecting the fan base. Not perfect by any means as we all have our
personal tastes, but nonetheless, a pretty close reflection of what us fans feel are the strongest albums. I actually
expected it to be higher with all the reviews I've been reading. Kinda surprising.

As far as sales, it's hanging in there at #12 on amazon. Not sure how BCSL did, but ADTOE has probably been in the top 15 for two weeks prior to release.

I see it hitting top 5 on billboards.

From what I understand, the general online DT community split up at some point due to differing opinions on their music. There was the group that generally liked most of their albums and songs (DTF) and those that stopped liking their material after SFAM or SDoIT. The latter moved to fiveeightforums, and the rest stayed here. That's what Ive gathered from being on this forum for the last year and a half.

I'm sure there are more informed people on this board that can tell you as well.

5/8 is almost like a brother site to DTF. When the original forums asploded it split a couple times and went through many incarnations until all that remained was DTF.org and 5/8. 5/8, however, is not a Dream Theater forum. It's merely a continuation of the community that moved there.
