Well. I'll get it anyway, because I wouldn't mind having a high quality version of it.

The Youtube version is 720p meaning it's better than a low-resolution DVD.

I really would have loved to have seen the full auditions, or at the very least Mangini's full audition.

Couldn't agree anymore man.  Hopefully they'll consider including Mangini's full audition as an extra on the next concert video release.

The Youtube version is 720p meaning it's better than a low-resolution DVD.

The audio is still streaming at 96 kbps regardless of the 720p RESOLUTION setting.

That's a really good point. Compressed audio less than 320 kbps is noticeably worse than cd quality usually if listened to on a revealing source. 96 kbps is extremely low quality and should be taken as such.

Another thing to consider; some DVD releases are actually 720p. Obviously if you play them with a DVD player on an SD display, it will only play in 480, but if you run such a DVD on a BluRay player, on an HDTV, it will use the full 720p feed.
Obviously it's not all DVDs, and it's completely unknown if they'll do that for this release, but it's possible.

If it doesn't arrive in the post, I am absolutely doing that. And giving the spare to charity or something. Save it as a birthday present?

I usually don't pre-order, as:

a. I don't like to be at the mercy of the Post Office. It might be less convenient, but if I go down to the shop myself, I'm in control, and won't be worrying about when it's going to arrive.
b. I find the trek down to HMV infinitely more exciting than the wait for the postman.

I bought both of the last two albums in the shop, but for some reason I got really carried away and wanted to put my stake in the ground very early, this time around. I think I saw the "[CD+DVD]" box-set added to Play.com before we even knew what the DVD consisted of and thought "oh I am going loco down in acapulco and nobody can stop me." Plus, I wanted the low-price guarantee.

Which, as a guarantee, will be fairly hollow if it's delivered late, 'cause I'll pay twice the price anyway, but I help the album's chart standings very slightly, and sometimes the pre-orders arrive early, so hey! Got the Resistance a full weekend ahead of schedule. James LaBrie's Elements of Persuasion two days early, too. So it's a nice punt.

What's the argument of getting the special editition cd/dvd? A documentary that you can see on youtube for free?

That's not what it says on Amazon, but DT is close.  Here is the list of the top-selling new or upcoming releases on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/new-releases/music/ref=zg_mw_tab.  DT is 20th, but many of those albums are already released.  Of those that have not yet been released, DT ranks 7th.  So, to me, that means DT is the 7th best-selling pre-order on Amazon, according to Amazon.  Still pretty amazing!

However, you can say DT is the #2 top-selling pre-order in the rock category, behind the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Oh I will, but I will buy the product with the music only because no other product interest me as of now. A previously unseen documentary or some other video footage would be nice. Some kind of studio footage or something, would be an instant buy.

I can't speak for anyone else, but MY argument for getting it is:
1.  Things don't stay on YouTube forever.  Now I'll have the whole thing in a permanent format.
2.  Better quality and resolution, and I won't have buffering issues if I'm on a computer that doesn't have enough memory/bandwidth.
3.  As a collector who tries to get everything that is at least reasonably priced, I don't mind shelling out a few more bucks for something I will ocasionally watch and enjoy.
4.  Even though I am about 95% certain there will be no additional content, I am holding out hope on the very small chance there is something extra that we haven't seen in the YouTube versions.  But mostly 1-3, since I realize this is an extremely remote possibility at this point.

Well, I don't know if it is illegal or not (technically speaking it shouldn't be, because the whole process of viewing a video on the Tube features a download of the clip in your temp files folder) but I downloaded the HD clips from YouTube and now I have them in a more "permanent" format here. And the 720p vids have considerably better quality than a regular DVD format.

The moment I see that the DVD could feature more than the 3 episodes, I'll order the collectors edition.

JP is getting too large to not be in the middle, next thing we know, the drum set will be on the right of the stage and Petrucci in the middle in live performances.

Has this link been posted yet? It explains the ticket for life. Petrucci says it lets you go to any DT show for the rest of your life. Basically what you dared to think it may be but expected not. That's what it sounds like.

Since it's in an officially released clip, I'm going to point out that the melody JR is screwing around with at 4:20 in the clip is from the new album, although it doesn't sound like samba on the CD :lol

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.
