Just wanna say I really enjoyed all of the songs this round, so good job everyone!
ROUND 4 RESULTS
6 Points:
Peter Gabriel - San Jacinto (SDN)
Andddddd.... DAMN GIRL! Perfection. That was amazing. I almost purchased a PG vinyl the other day from my local shop, but I wasn't sure which one I should go with. I'm guessing whichever record has this song on it would be a good choice! I don't really even know what to say. I didn't closely analyze the music this time, I just laid back and let it sweep over me. Absolutely brilliant!
5 Points:
Florence & The Machine - Cosmic Love (Quad)
SWEET! Really digging this one. Not only are the vocals superb, the underlying music is also really interesting. The outro is like something straight out of a dream. I heard one of the songs from this band on turntable.fm before, and now I want MORE
Jeff Buckley - Forget Her (H)
Really sad song. At first, the vocals didn't blow me away but he has such a beautiful warm tone to his voice. Great solo in there too. The vocals following that solo were really powerful, and brought the song to a strong climax. Very nice, subtle use of the organ too. All in all, excellent song!
4 Points:
Pomplamoose - If You Think You Need Some Lovin (sonata)
wtf this isn't depressing. 0/10
But no, that was pretty cool. Love the harmonies in there. Very simple song, but very very catchy. Scatting at the end is pretty gnarly dude. All in all, just a very fun song.
dada - Star You Are (kings)
I am a sucker for vocal harmonies. And this song sure has its abudance of them! Enjoyed this thoroughly!
Chicago - Question 67 and 68 (jsem)
Chiacgo is a band I have wanted to get into for a long time. I only had heard a song or two before. This might be the catalyst I needed to bump me into starting to listen to them! Excellent song, vocals had that great vintage 70s feeling to them.
3 Points:
Brooke Fraser - Flags (antigoon)
Really pretty song. Very dreamy. Like you said in your message, she doesn't perform a ton of vocal acrobatics, but her voice is so gentle and... well, peaceful. The ending with "I know the last shall be first" gave me goosebumps!
Wishbone Ash - Warrior (shakezula)
The song itself was very cool! Never heard of this band before, but they sound like something I will really enjoy. With that said however, the vocals didn't really do all that much for me. Certainly nothing wrong with them, they were good, but they weren't great. Just not enough to win a vocal round. But the instrumentation itself is so great!
2 Points:
Phutureprimitive - Disappear (dethklok)
I did really like this song. Very ambient and spacey. However, I don't think it was a good pick for the vocal round. The vocals are so buried beneath all of the effects on them, that its hard to really know how good they are. With that said, however, I really did like the song, and I wish I could give you more points for it. If this was submitted during a different themed round, it would get a lot higher, but because the vocals were autotuned and it was hard to hear what he really sounded like, it was hard for me to judge his vocals accurately. Still, they suited the song very well.
1 Point:
Faith No More - Star A.D. (parry hears)
Really fucking groovy song. Loved the bass throughout it. Again, unfortunately, I wasn't that impressed by the singing. The ending vocals are pretty cool, but for the most part the vocals were vastly overshadowed by the music beneath them.
So, this ends the normal rounds....
