Hammond, Hammond, on the wall,
Who's got the dirtiest organ of all?
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I've always been a big fan of Derek's organ.  If you know what I mean.

Of course I know what you mean. You can't get enough of his dirty organ, can you?

You know it.

As for Moore's dirty organ, well, he probably needs something smaller.

Some more offtopic but I also prefer Derek's version of The Killing Hand. I haven't listened to it that much so I can't tell if there are other differences but that choir break before "Only a prophet..." is amazing. Not a big fan of JR's solo from WDADRU (around the 2-3 minute mark).

So glad JR kept the choir part though.

Honestly Jordan eludes me. His influences are classic prog and melodic stuff like PT and Sigur Ros, but when he plays with DT it's like "oh, you want me to play metal? Ok!" Wheedle deedee~~~~~

That's his Keith Emerson/Rick Wakeman side showing, both classically influenced and/or trained, but also very into silly things too. Neither of them are above honky-tonk piano solos, either, which is probably the inspiration behind the one used during "The Dance Of Eternity".

Yeah, but those guys played keyboard leads like... keyboard leads. Some of JR's keyboard leads sound way more like guitar leads. I mean, Wakemen and Emerson never divebombed...

My favorite JR solos have been ones that sound more like classic prog solos. I think Blind Faith is the perfect example of JR at his best. And I guess I'm one of the few who really like his new interest in all the iPad gizmos, because it seems to be really bringing his ambient side out.

Dont forget Octavarium solo too. That solo has a nice leadtone.

Yeah. That and Blind Faith are easily two of his top three. The finale of ITPOE pt. II has some nice classic prog influenced keyboard playing going on, too.

Agreed.  I love most of JR's playing, but when he goes overboard (like his solos in Honor Thy Father or The Test That Stumped Them All, or the way he often "wanks up" solos originally done by Moore or Sherinian), that is when I tend to cringe a little.  When Emerson and Wakeman went batshit insane with the fast playing, you could always hear the melody in there; I cannot say the same thing for Rudess, and maybe that the fact that he sometimes plays solos like a guitar lead has something to do with it.  I am sure there are very few who can play some of what Rudess does, but crazy technicality does not equal "enjoyable to listen to."
