For starters I am miserably inept with computers. In fact if I could get midget porn on my TV and a good discount at a record store I doubt I'd even own a computer. That established, I'll move on with my problem.

I need to hook up a wireless router to my regular router but that ethernet jack is already being used to go straight to my computer which after an extensive looking over has only ONE ethernet connection.

Would I need to get a splitter of some kind or am I even farther off base than I'd thought?

Hook up the router to the wireless router with the ethernet cable and do everything wireless?

Seems painfully obvious in hindsight :lol Out of curiosity will other computer users in the house have any access to data pertaining to my computer?

Only if you want them to. By default they shouldn't have access.

  • and that is the truth.
The other option would be to creat a bit of a chain. Wall to router, router to wireless router, wireless router to computer using ethernet cables. Your wireless router should have an ethernet out port that you can attach to your computer. If you don't mind connecting your computer wirelessly, that's easy too.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what would be the point of a router with only one connection?
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

If he changes his IP enough times, he'll be untraceable!
Listen! Do you smell something?

It's likely that he's calling it a router when it's the DSL/cable modem. Hence, the single connection.

And in which case, you obviously connect that single connection to the wireless router's "WAN" port, then run wire from that router's wired ports to your computer.
