42. Shinedown – Leave a Whisper: Shinedown is quite simply one of the best mainstream bands out there today. Even with their newest release, they continue to write meaningful songs while receiving a lot of mainstream attention. I first listened to Leave a Whisper in my freshman year of high school, and I loved it from the very start. Brent Smith is a phenomenal vocalist and is really the highlight of the album (seriously, check out their cover of Lynyrd Skynyd’s “
Simple Man”
)
Best songs: 45, Simple Man, Fly From the Inside
41. Tool – 10,000 Days: What a surprise. A Tool album. I bet you didn’t expect to see this here. For the most part this album didn’t utilize the potential that it had. There are some songs on here that are absolutely, mind blowingly awesome, but the second half just doesn’t live up to it. Still though, it’s those mind blowing moments from Tool that I really love, and I think that the album is better as a whole than Ænima.
Best songs: Vicarious, 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2), Right in Two.
40. Rush – Hemispheres: I’ve never understood how people can like Rush as much as they do. I mean, I LOVE their progressive era, but I certainly can’t consider them anywhere near my favorite band. Anyway, this is my favorite Rush album. A Farewell to Kings was close behind, but I could not deny the greatness of “La Villa Strangiato”, which is the greatest instrumental piece ever written imo.
Best songs: La Villa Strangiato, Hemispheres
